CS- SUNN calls for the investments in women to intensify progress for optimal nutritional outcomes
A call has been made to Government at all levels to invest in women so as to accelerate progress for b. optimal nutrition outcomes.
This is contains in a press statement signed by the Executive Secretary , Civil Society Organization Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, Mr Sunday Okoronkwo and made it available to newsmen.
The statement stated that Mr Sunday explains that as International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide the need for inclusion of women in the nation building is very significant .
The statement further noted that the Executive Secretary said according to the UNICEF's report ,the estimated four and a half million of pregnant women that is, fifty eight percent of an estimated over seven million pregnant women are anaemic,therefore urge governments for the fully implementation of funding ofMulti Micronutrients Suplementation with a view to curtailing the rate of anaemia and maternal mortality in the country.
The statement added that Mr Sunday Okoronkwo used the opportunity to note one in every ten women in the world lives in extreme poverty,saying at prime working age only sixty one percent of women are in labour force against ninety percent of men counterpart.
The statement also said while Mr Okoronkwo calls for the ending gender inequality by empowering women he advised governments for the implementation of six month maternity leave for working mothers to achieve optimal nutrition outcomes in Nigeria.
