The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kano State, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, ACArb, yesterday night paid a working visit to the Chairman of the Multi-Agency Task Force Committee on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado Esq., at the Task Force Office.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Commissioner on Media, Dr Abubakar Tijjani Ibrahim, the visit, which took place after the Attorney General concluded his official engagements at the Ministry, provided an opportunity for both leaders to engage in constructive discussions on strengthening the fight against drug abuse, illicit trafficking and other related criminal activities in Kano State.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration, effective information and intelligence sharing, and improved coordination among relevant institutions in tackling the challenges posed by drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Maude assured the Task Force of the readiness of the Ministry of Justice to provide the necessary legal support and strengthen collaboration with the Committee and other relevant agencies in the collective effort to combat drug abuse, illicit trafficking and related criminal activities in the state.

He stressed the importance of a coordinated approach involving law enforcement agencies, the justice system and other stakeholders, noting that effective prosecution, prevention and public awareness were critical to addressing the menace.

The Attorney General also emphasised the need to protect young people and other vulnerable members of society from the devastating consequences of drug abuse, while reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote public safety and the rule of law.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Multi-Agency Task Force Committee, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, appreciated the Attorney General for the visit and expressed the Committee’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and other relevant institutions to achieve its mandate.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both parties to strengthen institutional collaboration and adopt a more coordinated approach towards combating drug abuse, illicit trafficking and associated criminal activities in Kano State.

NWDC Commends Multi-Agency Task Force, Seeks Collaboration To Tackle Drug Abuse And Insecurity In The North-West

 The North-West Development Commission (NWDC) has commended the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Practices for significant gains recorded in the fight against drug abuse, and has expressed readiness to collaborate on regional solutions to tackle the menace across the North-West.

According to the Director, Press and Public Relations, Abdulrashid Yusuf Safana, the commendation came during a courtesy visit to NWDC's management on Wednesday by the Task Force, led by its Chairman, Barrister Muhiyi Magaji Rimingado.

Speaking at the meeting, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NWDC, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma'aji, said drug abuse has become a major driver of insecurity, poverty, and youth restiveness in the region.

"The North-West cannot achieve its development goals if a generation of our young people is lost to drug abuse. The data before us is alarming, and the link between drug abuse and the rise in gun violence is now clear to all of us," Prof. Ma'aji said.

Briefing the Commission, Barr. Rimingado disclosed that within 45 days of its inauguration, the Task Force recorded over 200 raids across vulnerable communities and secured over 200 convictions, with some offenders sentenced to up to 10 years' imprisonment. The operations also led to the recovery of weapons and other exhibits. He added that 120 of the most critical and vulnerable offenders are currently undergoing rehabilitation at two correctional and reformatory centres.

Rimingado described the Kano State Government's approach as two-pronged: aggressive law enforcement and mass rehabilitation.

"Government did not set up this committee only to arrest and prosecute. If we jail them for 10 years and release them back to the streets with no reform, we have achieved nothing. That is why we are removing the most vulnerable from the streets and putting them in reformatories," he said.

In his response, Prof. Ma'aji said NWDC will work to integrate drug prevention, rehabilitation, and youth empowerment into its regional development blueprint for Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.

"At NWDC, our mandate is to rebuild the North-West. That means building infrastructure, but also rebuilding people. We will work with the Task Force and other stakeholders to expand rehabilitation centres, provide skills acquisition, and create jobs as alternatives to crime," he added.

Prof. Ma'aji expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his continued support to the Commission and for establishing the Multi-Agency Task Force to combat drug abuse in the state. "This initiative is a testament to the Governor's concern for youth welfare and development," he said.

The Commission called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and parents to join the campaign against drug abuse, noting that security and development must go together.

The North-West Development Commission was established to drive infrastructure development, human capital investment, and peace-building initiatives across the seven North-West states.

Kano Special Task Force on Drug Abuse Conducts Joint Show of Force, Arrests 13 Suspects

 In furtherance of the Kano State Government’s unwavering commitment to combating drug abuse, illicit trafficking and other forms of criminality, the Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday, 31st July 2026 successfully conducted a Joint Patrol and Show of Force Operation across strategic locations within the Kano Metropolitan area.

According to the Director Public Enlightenment of KSNWC, Yusuf Abubakar Ibrahim the operation, which commenced immediately after a strategic briefing by the Chairman of the Committee, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, brought together key security and law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort to reinforce public safety and strengthen security across the State.

While addressing the participating personnel before the commencement of the exercise, the Chairman charged all security operatives to exhibit the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and dedication throughout the operation. 

He reiterated the resolve of the Kano State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to rid the State of drug-related crimes and ensure a peaceful, secure and crime-free society for all residents.

The joint operation involved over 200 personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano State Security Neighbourhood Watch Corps (KSNWC), Kano State Anti-Phone Snatching Committee (KOSSAP), Vigilante Groups and other collaborating security agencies.

The operation was led by the Commander, Anti-Daba Squad, Superintendent of Police B.M. Gwadabe. Also participating were the Deputy Commander General of the Kano State Security Neighbourhood Watch Corps, Major Abubakar (Rtd), the Director of Operations of the Corps, Habibu Balarabe Madigawa, alongside other officers and personnel from the participating security agencies.

During the operation, the security personnel conducted intensive patrols and a show of force through identified crime-prone areas and known flashpoints, including Kofar Nassarawa/Railway Axis, Filin Mahaha, Makabarta, Kwanar Goda, Mandawari, Dan Agundi, Jakara, Gadon Kaya, Gwale and several other strategic locations within the Kano metropolis.

The exercise was designed to enhance inter-agency collaboration, deter criminal activities, disrupt the operations of drug dealers and illicit traffickers and reassure law-abiding residents of the continuous presence and preparedness of security agencies to protect lives and property.

As a result of the operation, thirteen (13) suspects were arrested at different locations for various suspected offences. The suspects have since been handed over to the Anti-Daba authorities for thorough investigation and further legal action in accordance with the law.

The operation was completed successfully without any security breach or untoward incident, while Personnel from all participating agencies demonstrated exemplary discipline, professionalism and operational synergy throughout the exercise, further underscoring the effectiveness of sustained inter-agency cooperation in addressing security challenges.

The Kano State Security Neighbourhood Watch Corps commends the leadership of the Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, all participating security agencies and the good people of Kano State for their continued support and cooperation in the collective effort to safeguard the State.

The Corps wishes to reassure members of the public that it will continue to work closely with sister security agencies in support of the vision of the Kano State Government to eliminate drug abuse, curb illicit trafficking, combat youth-related violence and sustain peace, security and public order across the State.

Special Task Force Chairman Visits Kano Reformative Centre Kiru, Strengthens Partnership Against Drug Abuse

The Chairman of the Kano State Special Task Force Committee on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, has reaffirmed the Committee's determination to strengthen collaboration with key institutions in the fight against drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and related social vices.

According to the statement by the Media and Publicity Unit of the Task Force, Barr. Muhuyi made the commitment during an official visit to the Kano Reformative Centre, Kiru, where he was accompanied by the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Institute, Barr. Rahama M.A. Yusuf, and the Centre's Coordinator, Miss Cheryl Kwagga.

The visit was aimed at assessing the Centre's operations and exploring ways to enhance ongoing efforts in rehabilitation, prevention, and the successful reintegration of individuals recovering from drug addiction into society.

During an interactive session with the management of the Centre, discussions focused on strengthening rehabilitation programmes, improving institutional cooperation, and identifying practical measures to address the growing challenge of drug abuse and illicit trafficking across Kano State.

Barr. Muhuyi stressed that the Task Force remains committed to working with government agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to implement sustainable strategies that will curb substance abuse and promote public safety.

He noted that effective collaboration and coordinated action among relevant institutions remain essential to building a healthier, safer, and drug-free society.

Kano Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Holds Maiden Committee Meeting

The Chairman of the Kano State Special Task Force Committee on Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, today held a strategic meeting with members of the Committee as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking, and related social vices across the State.

In a statement by the Media and Publicity Unit of the Committee, the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among relevant stakeholders, reviewing the Committee's strategic objectives, and developing effective and sustainable measures to address the growing challenges associated with drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Kano State.

Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado emphasized the importance of a coordinated, proactive, and multi-sectoral approach in tackling the menace, stressing the need for stronger synergy among government institutions, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, community stakeholders, and other relevant partners.

He further reaffirmed the Committee's commitment to supporting preventive initiatives, public awareness campaigns, rehabilitation and reintegration efforts, as well as effective strategies aimed at reducing the demand for illicit substances and curbing their trafficking within the State.

The Chairman urged all Committee members to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and collective responsibility in the discharge of their duties, noting that the success of the Committee would depend largely on effective teamwork, institutional collaboration, and sustained engagement with communities.
