Kano Govt. Vows to Fix Inherited Deplorable Condition of Dilapidated Schools in the State

Kano State Government has expressed commitment to address the deplorable condition of the dilapidated schools inherited from the previous administration.

The State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda gave the assurance when he visited Murtala Muhammad Senior Secondary School in Tarauni Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenmemt of the ministry, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiri, said Murtala Muhammad Senior Secondary School is among the dilapidated schools inherited by the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf from the previous administration and trying to assess it's condition for renovation.
Supervising the school, Dr. Ali Haruna announced that the present administration had inherited a decayed system of education with so many dilapidated schools in the state.

" We inherited a decayed system in the education sector and this is what we are trying to fix. So, we are visiting all the dilapidated schools, even though we have their records, but this is what we have been doing day by day to bring the real situation of the schools we met in Kano State" said Makoda.

He expressed dismay over the manner some residents are turning Murtala Muhammad Senior Secondary School in to a refuse dumping site, stressing that government is going to take appropriate action to control the situation.
While inspecting the ongoing construction and renovation of classrooms at Government Girls Secondary School Guringawa by the present administration, Dr. Makoda expressed satisfaction with progress so far and the contractor's effort to keep to his promise of completing the work within stipulated period.

Among the projects inspected at the school by the Commissioner were the construction of two blocks of storey building of 4 classrooms, 2no five-seater toilets for students, staff toilets, school fence and staff offices and drilling borehole among others.

The Commissioner also paid a visit to the newly renovated Tukun Tawa Secondary School by the administration under the project given to the elected Councillors at 484 Wards in the state .

Makoda assured that the State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf would continue to stand by his words and make sure that children in the state have access to quality education.

These efforts therefore aim to strengthen the overall quality of education and provide a conducive learning in Kano State.

Sallah Break: Resumption Dates Announce for Kano Schools

Kano State Ministry of Education has announced Sunday 15th June 2025 as the resumption date for all Boarding Public/Private Primary and Post Primary Schools from the Eid-El Kabeer Break.

A statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, discloses that Pupils and Students in Day schools are to resume on Monday 16th June, 2025 respectively. 

The statement therefore enjoins Parents/Guardians of Students to take note of the resumption date to ensure total compliance. 

It warns that appropriate Disciplinary Action would be taken against defaulting Students/Pupils.

The Statement also quoted the Commissioner of the Ministry Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda wishing both teachers, students and pupils for successful completion of the 3rd term academic session, emphasizing that the Ministry would continue with intensive routine monitoring exercise to ensure staff punctuality and efficiency.

73 schools in 11LGA's confirm readiness for Gombe Inter-Schools Athletics Championships

The Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Competition 2025 has received a boost with 73 schools across 11 Local Government Areas have officially registered to participate in the championship.

This highly anticipated event, scheduled to take place from 19th to 25th January 2025, will be held at the prestigious Pantami Township Stadium situated in Gombe Metropolis.

The competition, which includes public and private schools such as GDSS Dukku West, GSS Bolari East, Emerald International Academy, and Diocesan High School, aims at promoting sportsmanship, uncover young athletic talents, and foster youth development.

Participants will compete in varieties of events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m races, 4x100m and 4x400m relays, shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and javelin throw, among others. 

Football matches are also scheduled, with youth football teams for boys competing in exciting games leading to the finals.

Also note that scouts from Germany led by a former captain of Flying Eagles, a EUFA Licence Coach Adrew Uwe and Coach Henry Ambrose from AGIC-DIASPORA FOOTBALL OUTREACH will be in Gombe to scout for talents during the
Principal's Cup football Competition.


The opening ceremony will include a match pass, which kicks off on 19th January, while the closing ceremony on 25th January will feature the presentation of medals and awards to outstanding athletes and schools.


This initiative, organized by the Gombe State Athletics Association under the leadership of Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara-Gombe and sponsored by the Green White Green Sports Center, also includes the Principals Cup Football Competition, bringing together over 3,500 athletes and footballers across the 11 Local Government Areas in the State 


The event offers more than just competition. Participants and spectators will enjoy the fully-equipped Games Village, fitted with security, accommodation, healthcare, food, and entertainment, making it a holistic experience.

Organizers are excited about the strong response and are committed to delivering a well-organized and competitive event that will serve as a platform for nurturing future athletes and fostering collaboration among schools

2024/2025 Academic Session:Kano Announces New Resumption Date For Primary and Post Primary Schools

The Kano State Government has approved Sunday, September 15th, 2024, as the new resumption date for all boarding public/private primary and post-primary schools in the state for the start of the 2024/2025 first term academic session.

Pupils and students in day schools across the state will resume on Monday, September 16th, 2024. 

It should be noted that the state Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, announced on Saturday, September 7th, the postponement of the school resumption date.

A statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the State Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, urges parents/guardians of students to take note of the new resumption date to ensure complete compliance. 

It also advised students to avoid bringing any illegal items to school, such as knives or razors, and to obey the law.

The statement reiterated the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusif commitment to ensuring that every child has access to a quality education.

" The government is taking positive steps toward creating a conducive learning environment that will inspire and empower our students to excel academically " said the statement.

However, the statement urges people of the state to continue cooperating with the ministry, assuring them that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure an effective teaching and learning environment.

It wished both students, pupils, and their teachers a successful new academic year, stating that the ministry would conduct routine monitoring to ensure staff punctuality and efficiency.

2024/2025 Academic Session: Kano postpones Schools Resumption Date

Kano State Government has postponed resumption date of both Primary and Post Primary Schools for the commencement of 2024/2025 academic session.

A statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru quoted the Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa explaining that the decision to postpone the resumption date is compelled by some urgent reasons.

Umar Doguwa disclosed that another day for the schools resumption would soon be announced by the ministry.

" I wish to inform pupils, students and parents that the announcement earlier made for schools resumption on 8th and 9th Sept, 2024 is now being postponed due to some urgent reasons that would help in improving conducive learning atmosphere for our children. Another day for the resumption will be announced in due course " the commissioner stated.
 
The statement however appealed to the people concern especially Students and Parents/Guardians to bear with any inconvenience that may be caused due to the postponement.

Schools Closure: Kano Government Approves 26th and 27th July, 2024 as 3rd Term Vacation

Kano State Government has approved Friday 26th and Saturday 27th July 2024 as the date for the commencement of 3rd term vacation to all Day and Boarding Public/Private Primary and Post Primary Schools in the state.

Therefore, Parents/ Guardians of Pupils and Students in the Boarding schools are to convey their wards home by the early hours of Saturday 27th July 2024.
 
A statement issued by the Director Public Enlightenment of the State Ministry of Education Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru announced that Boarding Schools Pupils and Students are to resume back to their respective Schools on Sunday 8th September 2024 while Day Students are to resume on Monday 9th September, 2024.

The statement however quoted the Commissioner of the ministry Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa urging Parents/Guardians of Pupils and Students of the schools to ensure total compliance with the approved resumption dates.

He expressed appreciation for the usual cooperation and support given to the ministry and wished the Students and Pupils successful and hitch free holiday.

Commissioner Doguwa further, warned that appropriate Disciplinary Action would be taken against defaulting Students.

EDIL-KABIR BREAK: Kano Government Approves Vacation Date For Primary, Post Primary Schools

Kano State Government has directed all Primary and Post Primary Schools in the state to proceed for the Edil-Kabir Break from Friday, 14th June, 2024 to Monday 24th June, 2024 for day students, and for boarding students from Friday 14th June, 2024 to Sunday 23rd June, 2024 respectively.

A statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment Ministry of Education Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru announced that parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are therefore requested to pick up their wards by the early hours of Friday, 14th June, 2024.

It further explained that all other aspects of the 2023/2024 school academic calendar which include the stipulated public holidays remained valid.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa through the Director Public Enlightenment calling on parents and guardians to ensure that their children comply with the resumption date as disciplinary action will be taken against any student/pupil who fails to resume on the stipulated date.

" As we thank the good people of the state for the usual support and cooperation given to the Ministry at all times, I wish all the students and pupils for a successful Sallah Break " the statement added
