Arewa Progressive Initiative Decries Niger Military Ruler’s Criticism, Highlights Nigeria’s Diplomatic Strength

The Arewa Progressive Initiative (API) has expressed deep dissatisfaction with recent remarks made by the military ruler of Niger Republic, describing them as a contemptuous attack on Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the API spokesman, Alwan Hassan, emphasized that such criticism undermines Nigeria's standing in the region and fails to acknowledge the country’s critical role in fostering peace and stability in West Africa.

Hassan noted that Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and leadership extend far beyond its borders, citing the personal relationships cultivated by its leaders with major global powers.

“Even before his assumption as the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu had a personal relationship with France, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari maintained similar ties with England,” Hassan revealed.

He added that these connections reflect Nigeria’s historical and strategic importance on the global stage, and any attempt to undermine the country through baseless remarks is both unwise and counterproductive.

Hassan urged the Niger military leadership to refrain from making derogatory statements and instead seek meaningful dialogue to resolve grievances. “Nigeria has always been a pillar of support for its neighbors, and this should not be taken for granted,” he stated.

Alheeekmah News Correspondent in Abuja, Nura Ahmad Dakata, reports that the Arewa Progressive Initiative called on the Nigerian government to respond diplomatically, ensuring that the situation does not escalate further. The group also appealed to leaders across West Africa to foster mutual respect and prioritize regional unity over personal or political differences.

The API reiterated its commitment to advocating for peaceful coexistence and stronger ties among nations in the sub-region, warning that divisive rhetoric could derail efforts to tackle common challenges such as insecurity, poverty, and economic underdevelopment.
