Governor Yusuf Plans State-Owned Airline to Employ Kano-Sponsored Pilots

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled plans by his administration to establish a state-owned commercial airline aimed at creating direct employment opportunities for Kano indigenes who have completed their professional pilot training.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.

Governor Yusuf made the announcement during the 40th Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House, Kano, where he received multiple awards, including an honour from the Kano State Pilot Association in recognition of his commitment to supporting members of the association to complete their aviation training.

The Governor disclosed that, by the grace of God, the proposed Kano Airline is expected to commence operations within the next one year.

He assured members of the association that the state government would provide all the necessary support to actualise the project and ensure the successful operation of the airline.

Governor Yusuf also expressed satisfaction with the outstanding academic performance of the Kano-sponsored pilots who underwent training in Jordan under a programme initiated by a previous administration.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Kano State Pilot Association, Naziru Ibrahim, commended Governor Yusuf for his continued support, particularly in facilitating the revalidation of members’ flying licences.

He appealed to the Governor to further assist the pilots in securing their final certifications, which would qualify them to operate commercial flights both within Nigeria and internationally.

Qadiriyya National Leader Pays Historic Solidarity Visit to Governor Yusuf in Abuja

The Spiritual Leader of the Qadiriyya Islamic Movement, Sheikh Qaribullah Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, on Tuesday paid a historic solidarity visit to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in Abuja, marking the first official meeting between the two leaders.

During the meeting, Sheikh Qaribullah congratulated Governor Yusuf on the achievements recorded by his administration and prayed Almighty Allah to grant him wisdom, sound health and continued success in delivering good governance to the people of Kano State.

The revered Islamic scholar commended the governor’s developmental strides and encouraged him to sustain the current momentum in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare and other critical sectors.

He also assured the governor of the continued prayers and support of the Qadiriyya faithful for peace, unity and progress in Kano State and Nigeria.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to Sheikh Qaribullah for the visit, describing it as a reflection of the cordial relationship between the government and religious leaders.

The governor urged members of the Qadiriyya Movement and other Islamic groups to continue offering prayers for lasting peace, economic prosperity and national unity, stressing that spiritual support remains vital to the success of governments at all levels.

Praised by the activities of the former Executive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhiyi Magaji Rimingado, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed him to lead a high powered Anti-Drug Task Force to dismantle drugs network in the state. Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. 

From the nature of the appointment and how it was announced, it is evidently clear that the governor is extremely worried about the position of the state in the drug abuse rating. 

As Kano tops the list in North West and second to Lagos across the nation. In the zone Kano is rated at 16.0% prevalence with 1,070,000 users. While Zamfara state is rated 13.5%, with 312,000 users. Kebbi state 12.6%, with 286,000 users. As Katsina state has 12.0%, with 481,000 users. For Kaduna state it is 10.0%, with 462,000 users. As Sokoto state records 9.0%, with 230,000 users. And Jigawa state is rated 7.0%, with 211,000 users. 

The Kano's 16% prevalence, with 1,070,000 users is dated back to 2018 when the Executive Chairman of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Gen Muhammad Buba Marwa (rtd), quoted from the 2018 UNODC National Drug Use Survey. 

Governor Yusuf is disturbed with the result of Operation Sharar Mafaka, by NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, where 52 suspects were captured in 2 days, April 2026. Also also from 2020-202, 8,983.5kg were seized, 286 arrested and 78 convicted. As verified by NDLEA Kano Commander Isah Likita Muhammed, as reported by Voice of Nigeria. It is equally disturbing to know that in 2025 Kano made 1,389 arrests with 7,773.06kg that were seized and 94 rehabilitated. 

Governor Yusuf knows clearly the

key trends and what data reveals. For example South-West and North-West are hotspots when it comes to drug abuse, business and distribution network. Lagos with 33%, Oyo with 24% and Kano with 16%. As highest state rates on record, the South-West overall is at 22.4%.

Worried by these disturbing scenarios, Kano Governor vows to fight the syndicate, network, usage and other related criminalities attached to drug abuse. 

Not only the political will, he shops for a very strongly minded, virile, no-nonsense, committed to the core and fearless citizen to crush the network and other related activities. Hence the appointment of Barrister Rimingado, a known and a fearless anti-graft Czar. 

The name of Rimingado alone sends shivers to many shameless people who benefit from the network of drug abuse and marketing. Yes, the Governor did his best in the past, it is more glaring now that people believe he is all out to crush the menace. 

Barrister Rimingado's uncompromising posture and his patriotic commitment to serve his people in cleansing the system, make his appointment to be seen as one of the best appointments in the life of this administration in Kano. 

It is without any doubt to believe that, the newly appointed Chairman of the Task Force, has toiled hard to build his reputation. The way I know and understand him, I'm rest assured that he will not dent the image and reputation. He will definitely work hard to further consolidate his hard earned reputation. No two ways about it. 

In a press release issued by the Governor's spokesman Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa recently, it is clear that, the Task Force is an all-encompassing effort aimed at fiercely fighting drug abuse and businesses. Part of the release says, "The state government established the task force to provide a coordinated multi-agency framework aimed at disrupting illicit drug networks, accelerating prosecution of offenders and reducing drug demand through sustained advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns."

The Task Force's terms of reference gives a good picture of what will be the talk of the town, as soon as they start implementation. I find this part interesting, as part of the terms of reference, that, "Under its terms of reference, the task force is expected to strengthen intelligence gathering and information sharing among security agencies, identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks, establish secure communication channels for intelligence operations, and encourage community participation through confidential reporting mechanisms."

When I read, from the release that, "... the task force will develop mechanisms to ensure speedy prosecution of suspects through improved evidence gathering, standardized forensic procedures and collaboration with the judiciary for the establishment of fast-track courts to handle drug-related cases," I laughed in joy and said, Barrister Tsayayye is bouncing back again! 

Without any fear of mincing words, I can assure all that, when Rimingado strikes positive outcomes will be the product. It is not an overstatement when I say, as we are inching towards 2027 general election, the visibility and enhanced capacity of this Task Force will, for sure, add good substance to the struggle for votes for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano. The issue of drug abuse and business, has for long been a clog in Kano’s wheel. 

Truly, Governor Yusuf’s political will in appointing Barrister Muhiyi Rimingado is a landmark of this administration. Should this fight succeed, In Sha Allah, the APC will keep its place as the darling of Kano people — beyond party lines. 

Rimingado alone cannot make it to the promised edge. Hence good team is a prerequisite for good result and stronger effort. The Governor therefore makes an interesting and good choice in the membership of the Task Force. When they work hand in hand, in synergy, with Barrister Rimingado, history will always remember them. 

Your Excellency Sir, Pharm Ahmad Gana, a renowned fighter against drug abuse in Kano and the North, can make a good member of this all-important Task Force. He headed similar Task Force in the past. His records are there. I'm pretty sure Barrister Rimingado will enjoy working with him. As a member of the Task Force or as an Adviser. He is an asset when it comes to fight against drug abuse. 

I enjoy this part of the terms of reference, which says, "The committee is also mandated to identify major drug distribution points across the state, facilitate targeted raids and arrests, and recommend measures for the seizure of assets linked to drug trafficking activities."

Governor Yusuf Submits Nomination Form as APC Sole Candidate for Kano Ahead of 2027 Election

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has formally submitted his nomination form to the National Working Committee of the APC in Abuja as the sole candidate for Kano State in the 2027 governorship election.

The Governor was accompanied by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Kawu Sumaila, members of the House of Representatives, and other respected dignitaries from Kano State.

Briefing journalusts at Treasure Suits shortly after the submission of his nomination form, Governor Yusuf described the declaration of his second term as a fresh call to service and a renewed commitment to the people of Kano State.

He said his administration will expand urban renewal projects across the state while road construction, drainage expansion, and market modernization will receive greater attention.

Governor Yusuf said rural development will remain a major priority. He pledged more investments in feeder roads, water supply, healthcare centres, and schools in rural communities.

The Governor also promised stronger support for agriculture and empowerment programmes for farmers and young people,,saying job creation and youth development will remain at the centre of his administration’s agenda.

Mammoth Crowd Welcomes Governor Yusuf Back to Kano After APC National Convention

Kano witnessed a massive show of political strength and popular support as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf returned to the state following his participation in the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention.

It took the crowd eight ( 8) hours to escort Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf from Malam Aminu Kano Airport to the Government house, a journey that could have lasted for 15 minutes.

It could be noted that the mammoth crowd is second to the one held on 12th January, 2024 when the Governor returned to Kano after the supreme court judgment.

Governor Yusuf Commends Kano Police for Swift Arrest of Suspects in Killing of Housewife and Children

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Kano State Police Command for its swift and professional response that led to the arrest of suspects involved in the brutal killing of a housewife and her children in Dorayi Quarters, Kano.

Governor Yusuf described the prompt action of the police as a clear demonstration of commitment and courage in protecting the lives and property of the people of Kano State.

He said the horrific incident, which claimed the lives of an innocent mother and her children, deeply saddened the state, but the speed with which the suspects were tracked and arrested has restored public confidence in the security agencies.

The governor praised the Commissioner of Police and officers involved for deploying intelligence-led operations that led to the breakthrough, stressing that such professionalism must be sustained to deter criminals.

Governor Yusuf assured that his administration will continue to support the police and other security agencies with the needed logistics and cooperation to ensure that criminals have no hiding place in Kano State.

Nigerian Medical Association NMA lines up a week activities, praises Governor Yusuf

Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for taking measures to renovate over 200 Primary Healthcare Centres as well as upgrading some of PHCs and cottage hospital to general hospital across the state.

This commendation was made by Kano state chairman of NMA, Dr. AbdulRahman Ali while addressing newsmen on this year's Physicians Week held in the state capital.

Dr. AbdulRahman Ali said the commendation became necessary in view of it efforts to improve the health system as well as taking proactive measures aimed at improving the welfare f healthcare workers statewide.

The chairman explained that the measures taken by the state government will ginger and motivate the workers to continue to sacrifice and redouble their efforts in this regards. 

While appealing to the state government as a matter of urgency to innovate ways of ensuring a motivated and well compensated health workforce, he urged the state government to consider training and retraining within and outside the state for better service delivery.

He assured that the NMA members are ready to continue to work tirelessly and support the state government policy aimed at promoting and development of the state.

The chairman however, said that this year's Physicians Week theme is "Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building efficient from policy to patient," encapsulates the urgent need for a coordinated, accountable, and effective health system where every component from policy formulation to patient care is optimized to deliver true value to the Nigerian people.

The chairman revealed that in it's simplest form, a value chain refers to a sequence of interdepependent actions that transform inputs into outcomes of value, applied to healthcare, it represents the continuum that begins with sound policies and strategic financing, flows through efficient planning, an empowered workforce and effective service delivery.

Dr. AbdulRahman Ali said that the state chapter has lined up activities include lectures, visitation to various hospitals, free medical outreach among others throughout the week.

Governor Yusuf reactivates malnutrition centre to save 17,000 severely malnourished children

In a major step towards combating child malnutrition, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reactivated Community Management of Acute Malnutrition centres across the 44 local government areas of the state, targeting over 17,000 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition.

A statement issued by tge Governor's Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, said the intervention marks the first comprehensive effort in eight years, following the abandonment of the programme by the immediate past administration, a move that significantly contributed to a worrying 51.9% stunting rate, meaning one in every two children in Kano is affected.

Speaking during the official unveiling of the revitalized malnutrition treatment centre in Takai Local Government Area, Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over the dire nutritional condition affecting thousands of children in the state. He described the neglect as unacceptable and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to child survival and development.

Governor Yusuf disclosed that the state government has paid a counterpart contribution of N500 million to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which facilitated the procurement of 12,948 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a lifesaving supplement for treating severe malnutrition.

“Our children are suffering innocently from a preventable condition. With this intervention, we are giving hope to over 17,000 vulnerable children and restoring confidence in primary healthcare,” the governor stated.

He further revealed that the government is scaling up the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW), which includes the provision of Vitamin A supplements for children aged 6–59 months and Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) for pregnant women, as part of a broader strategy to reduce malnutrition and maternal health challenges.

The Health Manager, UNICEF Field Office Kano, Dr. Serekeberehan Seyoum Deres, commended Kano State for being the highest single-state contributor to the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF) in Nigeria with the release of N500 million.

He noted that UNICEF, alongside development partners, has invested significantly in improving nutrition indicators in Kano and across Nigeria. Dr. Deres emphasized the importance of sustained funding and urged the Kano State Government to consider a second round of MNCHW by December 2025 and to procure adequate quantities of deworming tablets to reach all children aged 12–59 months.

He also appealed for the approval of six months of paid maternity leave for nursing mothers in the state, a policy he said is vital to protecting infant nutrition and promoting exclusive breastfeeding.

UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Kano State Government to strengthen multisectoral responses to nutrition and health challenges affecting women and children.

Kano Engages on Learning Poverty Control Initiative Practice, Sends Delegation To Kwara On Study Tour...

In a bid to enhance quality education, Kano State Government has sent powerful delegation for study tour to Kwara State on Learning Poverty Control Initiative (KWARALEARN).

Kwara State, is one of the pioneering states in the implementation of the Learning Poverty Control Approach through the NewGlobe-supported KwaraLEARN initiative.

Leading the delegation, the State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda disclosed that the visit followed engagements by officials of the state ministry of education with the NewGlobe during the World Education Summit in May 2025 in London, where Nigeria's innovative responses to learning poverty were presented at the apex education summit.

Dr. Ali Makoda explained that the tour was therefore aimed at gaining first-hand knowledge of the operational framework of KwaraLEARN initiative with a view to launch similar initiative tagged kanONE.

Makoda stressed that during the tour, his team observed the practical application of NewGlobe-supported education reforms in Kwara state, adding that the tour would assist in exploring the possibility of replicating similar digital learning management tools in Kano State.

" It is very good effort by the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to improve the teaching and learning process in Kano by applying the NewGlobe Reforms as it has been fruitfully implemented in Kwara State.

" During our visit to two intervention schools under the KwaraLEARN program, we observed the use of e-tablets by teachers for lesson delivery based on standardized daily lesson plans, where real-time student data collection, lesson tracking and teacher performance monitoring were also demonstrated " he explained.

Receiving the delegation in his office, the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education, Kwara State Professor Raheem Shehu Adaramaja briefed the Kano team on the implementation challenges and solutions of the new reform.

He discussed and shared experience with delegation on the issue of cost effectiveness, the project sustainability and the need for support supervision by trained Schools Support Officers (SSOs).

The delegation later had a strategic dialogue with the Kwara state Commissioner for basic education and human capital development Dr. Lawal Olalekon Olohungbebe, where key features of KwaraLEARN was also discussed.

Other Members of the Kano State Delegation as led by the Commissioner include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, Executive Chairman, Kano SUBEB Alhaji Yusuf Kabeer and the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Education Yusha'u Hamza.

The study tour to Kwara State was successful in exposing the Kano State education leadership to a functional and innovative model in addressing learning poverty. 

Governor Yusuf Hosts Tunisian Ambassador, Strengthens Kano-Tunisia Economic Ties

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has warmly received the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Nigeria, His Excellency Mohsen Antit, along with a high-powered delegation of government officials and business leaders.

The visit, which coincides with the ongoing Tunisia-Nigeria Multi-sectoral Economic Forum, aims to foster deeper collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, culture, and trade.

Welcoming the delegation at Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed Kano’s position as a leading commercial hub in sub-Saharan Africa. 

He emphasized the state’s commitment to building mutually beneficial partnerships, describing Tunisia’s engagement with Kano as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral trade—particularly in agriculture, where both regions hold immense investment potential.

The governor further disclosed that Kano will partner with Tunisia in the areas of garment production, dairy processing, and dyeing industries, leveraging the expertise and resources of both regions to drive economic growth.

To facilitate business interactions, the governor directed the state’s Ministry of Investment, Commerce, and Industries, along with the Ministry of Agriculture, to organize an exhibition showcasing Kano’s economic strengths to the Tunisian delegation.

Governor Yusuf also highlighted the strategic importance of the Kano Dry Port in advancing international trade. 

He noted that local businesses were preparing to begin importing goods from Tunisia through the facility, a move expected to boost cross-border commerce.

Expressing gratitude for Tunisia’s hospitality toward 17 Kano entrepreneurs who recently visited the country for business engagements, Governor Yusuf assured that Kano would reciprocate by providing a welcoming environment for Tunisian investors.

To further solidify this partnership, he instructed the Managing Director of the Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (KAN-INVEST) to accompany the ambassador on a tour of key economic sites across the state.

In his remarks, Ambassador Mohsen Antit commended Kano’s economic potential and lauded the warm reception accorded to his delegation. 

He reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to strengthening long-term partnerships with the state and expressed optimism about the productive discussions held with Kano’s business community and government agencies.

"I'll Let My Performance Speak, Not Political Pressure" – Yusuf Responds to Ganduje

In a bold reaction to insinuations that the APC is planning to manipulate the 2027 elections in Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has vowed to resist any pressure on his mandate.

Speaking during the monthly women empowerment program at Coronation Hall yesterday, the Governor emphasized that he is not worried about the 2027 elections, as leadership is ordained by the Almighty Allah.

“What I am worried about is not re-election. I am more concerned about delivering the dividends of democracy on the mandate given to me in this first tenure. I want the good people of Kano to judge me by my performance at the end of this tenure,” the Governor said.

The Governor lamented how enemies of Kano, disguised as opposition members, are attempting to create political tension in the state.

“We know those people who were massively rejected in both 2019 and 2023. We won against them at a time when we had no political office—not even a councillor. But Allah made it possible for us to win with a landslide victory,” he added.

Governor Yusuf further cautioned the leadership of the APC in Kano to refrain from making inciting statements and hate speeches that could scare unsuspecting voters who are eager to exercise their civic rights.

“I am destined to be a Governor. It is my total belief and submission to the will of Allah that if He so wills, I will serve a second term. If not, I won’t. So why should I bother myself?” the Governor asked.

It can be recalled that the APC suffered a significant defeat in the hands of the ruling NNPP during the 2023 elections, losing the governorship seat, two senatorial seats, 18 out of 26 House of Representatives seats, and 26 out of 40 State Assembly seats.

Governor Yusuf set to distribute N3b for flood victims in Kano

Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has completed arrangements to flag off distribution of three billion naira (N3b) to victims of flood in last rainy season in the affected areas.

Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this while declaring opened the 23rd State Executive Council Meeting held at Kano Government House today.

A statement issued by Governor's spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Wednesday said, Governor Yusuf revealed that the amount was donated by the Federal Government to the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory as intervention for the 2024 flood disaster.

The governor further revealed that the money was remitted to the state treasury few months ago in preparation for onward distribution the the affected victims.

He added that the administration kept the money appropriately to identify the real victims who will benefit from the gesture of the Federal Government and ensure produnce, accountability and responsiveness in the process.

"Now that we are ready, we have all the lists of the victims, we know how much each victim will collect, so the distribution will commence," the governor assured.

He said already a main and sub committees for the distribution of the donation were set up and would go accross the 44 local government areas to disburse amount to real victims. Gov. Yusuf affirmed

It could be recalled that National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and  Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) with support from Intentional donor organisations have tracked the areas and people affected by the flood in Kano state.

Kano: Governor Yusuf Accepts Resignation of Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has accepted the resignation of Engr. Muhammad Diggol, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, with immediate effect.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday.

Engr. Muhammad Diggol was initially appointed as Commissioner for Transportation at the inception of Governor Yusuf’s administration in 2023. 

He was later reassigned to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, where he served until his resignation today.

Governor Yusuf expressed his gratitude to Engr. Diggol for his selfless service, unwavering commitment, dedication, and exemplary work ethic during his tenure as a member of the State Executive Council.

According to the statement, the Governor also extended his best wishes to Engr. Diggol in his future endeavours.

Governor Yusuf Makes Fresh Appointments, to Swear in New Commissioners Monday

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a series of strategic appointments aimed at strengthening his administration’s delivery of good governance.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the appointments, which take immediate effect, include Hon. Ahmad Muhammad Speaker as Special Adviser on Publicity. 

Hon. Ahmad brings a wealth of experience, having served three terms as Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government and as the former APC State Organizing Secretary.

The Governor also named Engr. Ahmad as Special Adviser on Works, signaling a renewed focus on infrastructure development.

Additionally, Malam Sani Abdullahi Tofa was appointed Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties. 

A highly respected figure, Malam Sani Tofa has served as a Khadi of the Sharia Court in Kano and Abuja, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Kano State Civil Service, and a former Director General of the Kano State Shari’a Commission.

Similarly, the Governor also appointed Hon. Ibrahim Jibrin Fagge as Chairman, Local Government Service Commission and Hajia Ladidi Ibrahim Garko as Chairman, Kano State Civil Service Commission.

The two appointees were the immediate past Commissioners of Finance and Tourism respectively.

The statement further revealed that the Governor has scheduled the swearing-in ceremony for Monday, 6th January 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Ante-Chamber of the Kano Government House. 

The ceremony will also include the inauguration of seven commissioner nominees recently screened by the Kano State House of Assembly, as well as all newly appointed Special Advisers.

These appointments underscore Governor Yusuf’s commitment to assembling a competent team to drive the state’s development agenda.

Governor Yusuf extends Service period to Kano HOS, Others

Kano state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has extended the service period of Head of Civil Service, some Permanent Secretaries and Senior Civil Servants to the period of 2 years with effect from 31st December 2024.

This was contained in an Executive Order signed by the Governor in accordance with the Doctrine of necessity.

The decision of the governor is backed by the provision therein in section 5 (2) and 208 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Those to enjoy the 2 years extension are Alhaji Abdullahi Musa as the Head of Civil Service, Umar Muhammad Jalo, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota , Mu'azatu Isa Dutse, Abdulmuminu Musa, and Tijjani Muhammad Sharif as Permanent Secretaries while Bashir Idris Diso as the Clerk to the state House of Assembly.

It could be recalled that those civil servants affected by the extension by virtue of the Civil Service Rules and Kano state Pension Trustees Fund Law are due for retirement by 31st December 2024.

According to the order, however, the government personnel whose service years were extended have exhibited high level of competence, excellence and good sense of responsibility while executing their official functions in accordance with the Civil Service Rules. 

It further stated that exit of such personnel will no doubt create a great vacuum in the state service, hence the need for their retention to facilitate effective and efficient service delivery in the state.

In the same vein, the Governor has also granted same two years extension to some Senior Civil Servants that includes Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, Comrade Marwan Mustapha, Comrade Tajuddeen Bashir Baba, Comrade Hashim A. Sule and Comrade Kabiru inuwa.

Others are Amina Idris, Psychiatric Nurse, Ahmad Lawan, Peri-Operative Nurse , Hussaini Nuhu Pediatric Nurse , Salisu H. Nadosun Peri-Operative Nurse and Larai Ahmadu a Critical Nurse Care, all from the Critical Health Sector.

The order therefore, directed that all the beneficiaries of the service extension should continue to exercise the function of the office to which he/ she is assigned in accordance with the Civil Service Rules in the government offices they were specifically assigned

Cabinet Rejig: Decision taken in good faith, best interest of Kano', Says Gov. Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has again, dismissed untowards perception on the recent cabinet reshuffle that affected the office of the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government and Five Commissioners. 

Addressing journalists Wednesday during the state executive council meeting held at Government house, Governor Yusuf specifically refuted political insinuation being attached to the major cabinet shake up. 

In a state issued by Governor's spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf who used the opportunity to debunk misrepresentation of government action, insisted the rejig was taken in good faith and in the best interest of Kano. 

" In recent times, we made some decisions in the administration, including cabinet reshuffle. As a result of this action, some lost their positions in the cabinet while some reassigned to serve in another capacity. Let me remind the public that the action taken was in the best interest of the people of Kano". Governor Yusuf added. 

In the release, Governor Yusuf stressed that the need to drop some commissioners became pertinent to inject renewed energy that will strengthen policies of government. 

Gov. Yusuf added that NNPP administration has pledged to deliver dividend of democracy, noted the urgency to effectively execute it's campaign promises equally neccesitated the replacement in the cabinet. 

With the appointment of new seven commissioners who were recently screened and cleared by the state assembly, Governor Yusuf stressed that the cabinet is reinvigorated with fresh ideas to turn around social and infrastructural development of the state. 

Although, the Governor notified those that were dropped from the state executive council would not be distanced from the administration, he assured of their reappointment to serve the state in another capacity. 

"We have promised to deliver dividend of democracy to our people. Unfortunately we are already short of time to deliver what we promises. So, we need to effect changes to speed up in good time. We have reshuffled the cabinet in order to improve the system. 

"Let me also say that we have not dropped those affected for life. We have other jobs for them, so I want everybody to accept the decision the way it is. As for those that were reassigned, we urged them to bring their previous experiences to bear in their new places of work". Governor said. 

Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf announced that the new commissioners would join the next executive council meeting and thier respective portfolios would be annouced.

Gov. Yusuf, Other North West Governors Push for United Nations Intervention

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state on Friday joined his North West counterparts on advocacy meeting with the officials of United Nations in Abuja. 

Those at the meeting along side Gov. Yusuf are Governors of Kaduna state, Uba Sani; Katsina state, Ummaru Dikko Radda; Jigawa state, Mohammad Namadi; Zamfara state, Dauda Lawan Dare and the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State who represented the Governor.

The Governors' meeting with officials of the United Nations was compelled by unfolding developmental challenges bedeviling the states within the region and the urgent need to solicit for international interventions in the region across critical areas of the economy. 

A statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Spokersperson to Kano state Governor explained the Governors in the region pushed for development agenda for the Northwest. 

The statement emphasized that the first joint meeting of the North West Governors with the UN officials enable avalanch of opportunity to relate issues on health, education, security, agriculture and other salient matters overstretching the capacity of States. 

In their collective submissions, the North West Governors sought for accelerated interventions of the United Nations through it's agencies and volunteers to rescue the region from multiple concerns threatening the survival of the region. 

Recall that the North West Governors were recently hosted on a security symposium by US Institute of Peace to broaden knowledge on strengthening conflict prevention in the region. 

The three days US conference, attended by Governors of Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa,and Plateau states, was designed to support the states address insecurity in Northern Nigeria and better option to mitigate the challenge. 

The intensive executive engagement enable the Governors of some of the trouble states deepen understanding on the dynamics of security threat, it's socioeconomic dimensions, and near-term opportunities to drive stability in Northern Nigeria.

The 2023 new crop of Governors have, for the first time in the political history of the region, collectively agreed to nurture a regional development agenda in key areas of human endeavour under the leadership of Katsina state Governor Ummaru Dikko Radda.
