Da yake zantawa da manema labarai a Kano, Rimingado ya ce kwamitin zai gudanar da aikinsa cikin adalci ba tare da nuna son kai ko tsoro ba, yana mai jaddada cewa ba zai bari wani tasirin siyasa ya kawo cikas ga yaƙin da ake yi da shan miyagun kwayoyi, safarar su da kuma ayyukan 'yan daba ba.

Ya ce babu wani ɗan siyasa da ya kamata ya zo neman a saki duk wani wanda aka kama da laifuka.

"Kada wani ɗan siyasa ya zo wurina yana neman na saki ɗan daba idan muka kama shi. Wannan Kano ce, kuma dukkanmu 'yan asalin jihar ne.

Ba za mu bari wasu tsirarun mutane su lalata makomar jiharmu ba."

Rimingado ya bayyana cewa Gwamnan Jihar Kano, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, ne ya ƙaddamar da kwamitin bayan ayyana shaye-shayen miyagun kwayoyi a matsayin matsalar gaggawa ta lafiyar al'umma a ranar 22 ga Yuli.

Ya ce kwamitin ya ƙunshi wakilan hukumomin tsaro da sauran hukumomin gwamnati masu ruwa da tsaki.

A cewarsa, an ɗora wa kwamitin alhakin murƙushe hanyoyin safarar miyagun kwayoyi, yaƙi da shaye-shaye, tallafa wa masu neman gyara ta hanyar shirye-shiryen farfaɗowa da kuma tabbatar da gurfanar da masu laifi a gaban kotu.

Ya bayyana masu safarar miyagun kwayoyi a matsayin manyan maƙiyan al'umma, yana mai cewa su ne babban abin da kwamitin zai fi mayar da hankali a kansa.

Shugaban kwamitin ya kuma bayyana cewa, bisa ƙididdigar Rundunar 'Yan Sandan Jihar Kano, kusan kashi 70 cikin 100 na manyan laifukan da aka samu a jihar a shekarar 2025 suna da alaƙa da shan miyagun kwayoyi.

Ya ƙara da cewa kwamitin zai kuma ɗauki mataki kan ƙungiyoyin 'yan daba, yana mai tunatar da cewa umarnin zartarwa da Gwamna Abba Kabir Yusuf ya sanya ya haramta irin waɗannan ƙungiyoyi ƙarƙashin Sashe na 97A na Dokar Hukunta Manyan Laifuka ta Jihar Kano. Ya ce duk wanda aka samu da laifin kasancewa mamba a irin waɗannan haramtattun ƙungiyoyi na fuskantar hukuncin ɗaurin shekaru biyar aƙalla idan kotu ta same shi da laifi.

Rimingado ya ce kwamitin zai yi amfani da tattara bayanan sirri, haɗin gwiwa da hukumomin tsaro da kuma goyon bayan al'umma wajen yaƙi da laifukan da suka shafi miyagun kwayoyi da tabbatar da zaman lafiya a jihar.

Ya kuma yi kira ga iyaye da su ƙara sa ido kan tarbiyya da ayyukan 'ya'yansu, yana mai cewa kulawar iyaye na taka muhimmiyar rawa wajen hana shaye-shayen miyagun kwayoyi da kuma shigar matasa cikin ayyukan ta'addanci da laifuffuka.

A ƙarshe, shugaban kwamitin ya buƙaci kafafen yaɗa labarai, shugabannin al'umma da sauran masu ruwa da tsaki da su mara wa gwamnati baya ta hanyar wayar da kan jama'a game da illolin shan miyagun kwayoyi da safarar su ba bisa ka'ida ba.

From Corruption to Cannabis: As Governor Yusuf Puts Muhiyi, Anti-Graft Czar, in Charge of Kano Drug Crackdown - Abba Anwar

Praised by the activities of the former Executive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhiyi Magaji Rimingado, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed him to lead a high powered Anti-Drug Task Force to dismantle drugs network in the state. Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. 

From the nature of the appointment and how it was announced, it is evidently clear that the governor is extremely worried about the position of the state in the drug abuse rating. 

As Kano tops the list in North West and second to Lagos across the nation. In the zone Kano is rated at 16.0% prevalence with 1,070,000 users. While Zamfara state is rated 13.5%, with 312,000 users. Kebbi state 12.6%, with 286,000 users. As Katsina state has 12.0%, with 481,000 users. For Kaduna state it is 10.0%, with 462,000 users. As Sokoto state records 9.0%, with 230,000 users. And Jigawa state is rated 7.0%, with 211,000 users. 

The Kano's 16% prevalence, with 1,070,000 users is dated back to 2018 when the Executive Chairman of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Gen Muhammad Buba Marwa (rtd), quoted from the 2018 UNODC National Drug Use Survey. 

Governor Yusuf is disturbed with the result of Operation Sharar Mafaka, by NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, where 52 suspects were captured in 2 days, April 2026. Also also from 2020-202, 8,983.5kg were seized, 286 arrested and 78 convicted. As verified by NDLEA Kano Commander Isah Likita Muhammed, as reported by Voice of Nigeria. It is equally disturbing to know that in 2025 Kano made 1,389 arrests with 7,773.06kg that were seized and 94 rehabilitated. 

Governor Yusuf knows clearly the

key trends and what data reveals. For example South-West and North-West are hotspots when it comes to drug abuse, business and distribution network. Lagos with 33%, Oyo with 24% and Kano with 16%. As highest state rates on record, the South-West overall is at 22.4%.

Worried by these disturbing scenarios, Kano Governor vows to fight the syndicate, network, usage and other related criminalities attached to drug abuse. 

Not only the political will, he shops for a very strongly minded, virile, no-nonsense, committed to the core and fearless citizen to crush the network and other related activities. Hence the appointment of Barrister Rimingado, a known and a fearless anti-graft Czar. 

The name of Rimingado alone sends shivers to many shameless people who benefit from the network of drug abuse and marketing. Yes, the Governor did his best in the past, it is more glaring now that people believe he is all out to crush the menace. 

Barrister Rimingado's uncompromising posture and his patriotic commitment to serve his people in cleansing the system, make his appointment to be seen as one of the best appointments in the life of this administration in Kano. 

It is without any doubt to believe that, the newly appointed Chairman of the Task Force, has toiled hard to build his reputation. The way I know and understand him, I'm rest assured that he will not dent the image and reputation. He will definitely work hard to further consolidate his hard earned reputation. No two ways about it. 

In a press release issued by the Governor's spokesman Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa recently, it is clear that, the Task Force is an all-encompassing effort aimed at fiercely fighting drug abuse and businesses. Part of the release says, "The state government established the task force to provide a coordinated multi-agency framework aimed at disrupting illicit drug networks, accelerating prosecution of offenders and reducing drug demand through sustained advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns."

The Task Force's terms of reference gives a good picture of what will be the talk of the town, as soon as they start implementation. I find this part interesting, as part of the terms of reference, that, "Under its terms of reference, the task force is expected to strengthen intelligence gathering and information sharing among security agencies, identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks, establish secure communication channels for intelligence operations, and encourage community participation through confidential reporting mechanisms."

When I read, from the release that, "... the task force will develop mechanisms to ensure speedy prosecution of suspects through improved evidence gathering, standardized forensic procedures and collaboration with the judiciary for the establishment of fast-track courts to handle drug-related cases," I laughed in joy and said, Barrister Tsayayye is bouncing back again! 

Without any fear of mincing words, I can assure all that, when Rimingado strikes positive outcomes will be the product. It is not an overstatement when I say, as we are inching towards 2027 general election, the visibility and enhanced capacity of this Task Force will, for sure, add good substance to the struggle for votes for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano. The issue of drug abuse and business, has for long been a clog in Kano’s wheel. 

Truly, Governor Yusuf’s political will in appointing Barrister Muhiyi Rimingado is a landmark of this administration. Should this fight succeed, In Sha Allah, the APC will keep its place as the darling of Kano people — beyond party lines. 

Rimingado alone cannot make it to the promised edge. Hence good team is a prerequisite for good result and stronger effort. The Governor therefore makes an interesting and good choice in the membership of the Task Force. When they work hand in hand, in synergy, with Barrister Rimingado, history will always remember them. 

Your Excellency Sir, Pharm Ahmad Gana, a renowned fighter against drug abuse in Kano and the North, can make a good member of this all-important Task Force. He headed similar Task Force in the past. His records are there. I'm pretty sure Barrister Rimingado will enjoy working with him. As a member of the Task Force or as an Adviser. He is an asset when it comes to fight against drug abuse. 

I enjoy this part of the terms of reference, which says, "The committee is also mandated to identify major drug distribution points across the state, facilitate targeted raids and arrests, and recommend measures for the seizure of assets linked to drug trafficking activities."

Muhyi Magaji’s Transformational Legacy at PCACC - By Najibullahi Danjuma Musa

When history remembers the fight against corruption in Kano State, one name will inevitably stand out “Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado”. His tenure as the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) was nothing short of transformative. What he achieved was not a mere upgrade of an agency — it was a total reinvention, a shift from a symbolic institution to a functional powerhouse feared by the corrupt and admired by reformers.

"Muhyi, that place is not working, go and make it work." That was the charge given to Muhyi Magaji Rimingado on his first day as Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) by the then Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Years later, it’s safe to say: he did not just make it work — he made it matter.

When He took over the reins of the Commission, it was more or less a quiet conflict resolution center running traditional “Zauren Sulhu” reconciliation sessions. While important, it barely scratched the surface of the commission's full statutory mandate — to handle public complaints and fight corruption. For that mandate to come alive, transformation was not optional — it was imperative.

And transform he did.

First came the establishment of the Operations Department, a game-changing reform that turned the Commission into a functional anti-graft institution with investigative teeth — with the power to arrest and detain. This wasn’t just administrative flair; it was courage. He faced fierce resistance, legal battles, and political pushback. But he stood firm and won.

Then came the expansion. Under his leadership, recruitment became merit-based, and over 90% of the current workforce were brought in, trained, and deployed through his initiatives. He saw capacity building as the only way to sustain the Commission’s relevance. These were not just appointments — they were capacity-building initiatives that redefined the Commission’s efficiency and professionalism.

But that’s only the beginning of the story.

Muhyi didn’t just raise a building — he renovated the Commission’s infrastructure and rebuilt its reputation. Today, PCACC is a symbol of fear for corrupt individuals, many of whom now dread facing the Commission more than any other law enforcement body in the state. The institution became known not just by its acronym, but by its new unofficial name: “Wajen Muhyi” — Muhyi’s Place.

He pioneered a transformation that saw even the high and mighty figures, held accountable. In Kano, impunity lost its sanctuary.

As if building a state-wide structure wasn’t enough, Muhyi extended the Commission's reach to the grassroots by establishing and staffing Anti-Corruption offices in all 44 Local Government Areas. These aren't symbolic outposts — they are functional offices playing real roles in the anti-corruption war.

His legacy includes bold interventions like price control enforcement and crackdown on hoarding of essential goods (food stuffs) during COVID-19 crisis and fuel (amid scarcity of fuel). These actions didn’t just resonate in Kano; they earned national and international attention, highlighting a Commission unafraid to wade into economic justice where others hesitated.

In terms of legal structure, Muhyi ensured that the Commission’s activities were backed by a team of professional in-house lawyers through a Legal Unit he created.

His strategic leadership also embraced transparency and global best practices by signing Kano State into the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and initiating frameworks like the Kano Anti-Corruption Strategy (KANSACs) and Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) in all MDAs.

He understood that change without knowledge is fleeting. That’s why he spearheaded the creation of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute (KANCI) — an academic and capacity-building hub that regularly trains Commission staff, civil servants, and public officials, bridging the knowledge gap in governance and accountability.

He also made public engagement seamless and inclusive. Suggestion boxes appeared across MDAs, palaces, and strategic locations — giving everyday citizens a direct channel to speak truth to power. He brought technology into the fold, launching Shawarata, an online complaints platform, and the PCACC Management System, which streamlined internal communication and management processes.

Even with the clock ticking on his tenure, his zeal to institutionalize change never waned. One of his final acts was securing approval to recruit 43 new staff — a move that underscores his focus not on himself, but on the institution and the future.

In a time where public service often serves private interests, Muhyi Magaji Rimingado chose the road less travelled. He chose justice. He chose integrity. He chose the people.

As he bows out, he leaves behind not just an office, but a movement. Not just a title, but a legacy. And not just a Commission, but an institution that commands respect across Nigeria and beyond.

To say this soul deserves an accolade is an understatement. He deserves a chapter in the history of reform in Nigeria. Indeed, in the war against corruption in Kano, there was a time, and that time was Muhyi.

Kano Anti-Corruption Commission detains LG Chairman over alleged land scam

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area, for allegedly selling vast land worth over N100 million meant for Kafin Maiyaki Mini Stadium.

The commission discovered that the amount was paid into Mohammed’s personal account.

According to the investigation, a company called Mahasum purchased the plots of land allocated for the Kafin Maiyaki Mini Stadium. 

The Public Relations Officer of the Commission, Mr. Kabir Abba Kabir, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area.

According to Kabir, Mohammed’s account received N240 million from November 1, 2024, when he was sworn in, to February 27, 2025, which has since been recovered.

Mohammed is cooperating with the investigation, which aims to uncover the truth behind the fraudulent sale of land and bring those responsible to justice. 

The commission is working to root out corruption and ensure accountability, with the suspect currently in custody and the investigation ongoing.

Kano Anti-Graft Agency Cracks Down on N20 Billion Land Fraud, Arrests Top Officials

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has uncovered a large-scale land scam valued at N20 billion, leading to the arrest of several high-profile individuals across the state.

Chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, disclosed this during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Kano. He revealed that at least 15 suspects had been taken into custody, including the Registrar of the Kano State High Court, three lawyers, and four officials from the Ministry of Lands.

Among those arrested are a serving High Court Registrar, a former Deputy Sheriff, and a court bailiff, all allegedly linked to fraudulent land deals.

Rimin Gado further disclosed that the suspects attempted to bribe security operatives with N2 million, but their offer was turned down.

He expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Aboki, for her unwavering support in the investigation. He also acknowledged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his firm stance on the matter, noting that the governor has given clear directives to ensure that all individuals involved are brought to justice, regardless of their status.

Anti-Corruption Agency Cracks Down on Land-Grabbing Syndicate in Kano, Arrests Key Suspects

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has uncovered a major land-grabbing syndicate, recovering over 1,200 plots of land and arresting several key players.

The commission has launched an extensive investigation into the syndicate, accused of manipulating legal and administrative systems to fraudulently acquire public and private lands.

Addressing journalists, the Chairman of the PCACC, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, revealed that the syndicate allegedly operated with the assistance of judiciary staff, lawyers, and land officials. "Preliminary findings have exposed a well-organized network of fraudsters exploiting loopholes to forge documents, backdate agreements, and obtain fake court judgments," he said.

Modus Operandi of the Syndicate

Rimingado detailed the group's operations, explaining how they colluded with influential individuals to legitimize their fraudulent activities. "They target properties of deceased individuals, absentee owners, or unsuspecting landowners, using forged affidavits and backdated documents to claim ownership," he stated.

One case involved 40 plots of land, where the rightful owner still held valid ownership certificates. "Despite no mortgage or transfer, the syndicate seized the land. We've recovered these plots, valued at over ₦20 million, and returned them to the owner," Rimingado disclosed, presenting evidence of the fraud.

Arrests and Evidence

Several suspects, including lawyers and public officials, were apprehended during the operation. Among them was a key figure caught with ₦2,857,000 in cash, allegedly intended to bribe officers for his release.

Rimingado said, "The suspect attempted to use the cash as a bribe during his arrest, which adds to the evidence against him."

The chairman also confirmed that some legal practitioners and officials were directly involved, drafting fraudulent agreements and facilitating the schemes.

Legal Action and Systemic Reforms

PCACC has vowed to prosecute all suspects, working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other stakeholders. Rimingado emphasized, "We will pursue legal action based on advice to ensure justice is served and future occurrences are prevented."

He highlighted how the syndicate manipulated the legal system by filing fake applications, creating non-existent defendants, and obtaining fraudulent consent judgments. "These judgments were used to intimidate legitimate landowners, with courts unknowingly granting orders based on falsified affidavits," Rimingado explained.

Government Support and Future Plans

The PCACC chairman commended the Kano State Government for its support in reforming land administration. "This investigation is a milestone in our fight against corruption. It will restore sanity to the system and deter others from engaging in such activities," he said.

Kano Anti-Corruption Commission Cracks Down on Land Racketeering Syndicate, Including Security Agents

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has dismantled a syndicate involved in land racketeering, implicating security agents and government officials in the illegal activities.

PCACC Chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, disclosed this during a town hall meeting organized by the commission on Tuesday. He reaffirmed the commission’s resolve to prosecute those found guilty, regardless of their influence or status.

Syndicate’s Modus Operandi

Rimingado revealed that the syndicate operated in collaboration with officials from the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, security personnel, judicial staff, and officials from the Ministry of Justice. The group reportedly stole original land documents, replaced them with forged ones, and used these fraudulent documents to claim ownership of lands.

“These individuals colluded to manipulate court processes by presenting fake documents as evidence and obtaining court orders to legitimize their claims. In some cases, they even fabricated fire incidents to obtain fake certifications from the fire service, further deceiving the courts,” he explained.

He emphasized that the commission has exposed several of these fraudulent schemes and vowed to bring all culprits to justice. “No one involved in this crime, regardless of their position, will be spared,” Rimingado asserted.

Public Sensitization Efforts

The PCACC chairman also stressed the importance of educating the public about corruption, noting that town hall meetings serve as a platform to enlighten citizens. Reflecting on his decade of leadership at the commission, Rimingado said, “We have faced numerous challenges, but our commitment to fighting corruption remains unwavering.”

Stakeholder Support

The event saw notable figures commending the PCACC for its efforts. Justice Dije Aboki, represented by Barrister Mustapha Hassan Muhammad, lauded the commission’s fight against corruption and pledged continued judicial support. 2024 International Anti-corruption Day: We give free hands to Kano Anti-gratf Commission -Gov. Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has firmly stated that his administration maintains a hands-off approach regarding the activities of the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission. 

In a statement issued by the Governor's spokesperson, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized that his government has never interfered with the commission’s investigations, reiterating its commitment to fairness and impartiality in the fight against corruption.

Speaking at the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day event held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf reassured the public of his administration’s determination to uphold the integrity and independence of the anti-corruption agency.

"My administration has given the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission a free hand to carry out its duties without fear, favor, or interference," the governor declared. 

"We are committed to supporting the agency in its efforts to eliminate corruption and ensure accountability in governance."

Governor Yusuf described corruption as a “cancer” that destroys public trust, weakens institutions, and impedes progress.

He stressed the need for a collective resolve to eradicate it and called on all stakeholders to play their part in building a transparent and accountable society.

In his speech, the governor unveiled several new initiatives aimed at strengthening anti-corruption efforts in Kano State.

These include the introduction of the Central Criminal Register Software, the Kano Integrated Governance and Accountability System (KIGAS), and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Action Plan for 2024–2026.

He also commended the leadership of the commission, headed by Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, for its professionalism and dedication.

 "The commission has done a commendable job in drafting the proposed Crime Bill to ensure recovered assets are transparently managed for the benefit of the state," the governor added.

Kano’s Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, echoed the governor’s sentiments, noting that the anti-corruption commission has excelled due to the administration’s full support and non-interference.

The chairman of the commission, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, expressed gratitude for the governor’s unwavering support. 

He noted that the event, initially planned for December 9, was postponed to accommodate the governor’s schedule and align with his commitment to good governance.

Appeal Court Overturns Suspension of Kano Anti-Corruption Chief

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday, set aside the order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), suspending Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

A three-member panel of justices, in the lead judgment read by Justice Umaru Fadawu, also ordered that the matter be re-assigned to another panel of the CCT.

Justice Fadawu, in the verdict, agreed with the arguments of Magaji’s counsel, Mr Adeola Adedipe, SAN, that the tribunal’s order was prejudicial and amounted to his client’s denial of fair hearing.

Recalls that the CCT had, on April 4, 2024 in Abuja, ordered the suspension of Magaji from office.

 SolaceBase reports that the three-member tribunal, headed by the embattled Justice Danladi Umar, gave the order following allegations of misconduct preferred against Magaji by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

In his ruling, Justice Umar, who dismissed Magaji’s motion, held that the tribunal had the competence and jurisdiction to hear the case.

He further directed Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to appoint the most appropriate officer to take over as acting chairman of the commission, pending the hearing and determination of the case.

He further held that Magaji cannot continue to discharge the duties and responsibilities of his office while facing trial, to avoid any interference with the case.

But dissatisfied with the ruling, Magaji, through his counsel, Mr Adedipe, approached the Court of Appeal, Abuja.

In the notice of appeal dated and filed April 5 by Adedipe, the senior lawyer gave five grounds why the appeal should be allowed and the CCT’s ruling be set aside by the appellate court.

He argued that the CCT erred in law, when it denied his client a right to fair trial, fair hearing and right to be presumed innocent, by making an order directing him to step aside as the chairman of PCACC, thereby determining his guilt, at an interlocutory stage.

He described the ruling as “a miscarriage of justice.”

He also argued that the tribunal erred in law, when without the requisite jurisdiction, it granted the reliefs sought by CCB, giving specific orders to Gov. Yusuf and SSG, “knowing full well that they are not parties to the present charge as constituted; it thereby occasioned a miscarriage of justice.”

He further said that the tribunal erred in law when it adjudged Magaji as capable of interfering with CCB’s witnesses in PCACC, even though no material evidence was put forward to support such a speculative claim.

The lawyer argued that the tribunal erred in law when it acted without jurisdiction and denied the embattled PCACC boss of a right to fair trial by making far-reaching findings which were speculative and prejudicial in nature.

Moreover, Adedipe submitted that the CCT erred in law, acted without jurisdiction and denied Magaji a right to fair hearing, when suo motu, it raised and determined issues of purported contradictions his counter affidavit, and further insisted he conceded to the speculative facts in CCB’s further and better affidavit.

Adedipe, in a motion on notice with charge number: CCT/KN/01/2023 dated and filed on April 5 before the tribunal, also sought an order for stay of execution of the order delivered on April 4 pending the determination of the appeal lodged at the Appeal Court.

Besides, he also sought an order of injunction restraining the CCB from executing, implementing the orders and decisions made by the tribunal, pending the hearing and determination of the appeal.

The CCB had, on Nov. 16, 2023, arraigned Magaji before the CCT on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conflict of interest, false declaration of assets, among others.

Magaji, who pleaded not guilty to all the counts was admitted to bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties.

However, Magaji in a motion filed by Adedipe, challenged the competence of the CCB to prosecute him

"Diverted 16,800 Palliative Rice Bags Were Philanthropist's Donation, Not Federal Government's – Kano Anti-Graft Boss"

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC) has backtracked on the 16,800 bags of rice said to have been diverted from the Federal Government palliative and repackaged in a warehouse in Kano.

The commission’s Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado while addressing journalists on Friday, said preliminary findings established that the rice was brought to Kano from Bauchi and Zamfara states.

The commission on Tuesday received a report through a whistleblower on alleged diversion of rice suspected to be part of the Federal Government palliatives in which over 28 trucks amounting to 16,800 bags were stored at a warehouse along Ring Road, Hotoro, Kano.

Daily Trust reported that the bags of rice were carrying the picture of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the inscription: ‘Ramadan Kareem’ and tagged ‘Not for sale.’

Daily Trust correspondent who was at the scene of the raid reports that the bags were converted from those having the picture of the President to the new ones meant for the open market.

But in a new development, Rimingado said the commission had discovered that the food item belonged to a philanthropist whose identity was not revealed.

He said the commission had invoked the provisions of Section 9 and 15 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended) and sealed the warehouse to allow for thorough investigation and made arrest at the scene while the other suspect submitted himself to the commission on Wednesday.

He said, “At the preliminary stage it was established that the goods were brought to Kano from Bauchi and Zamfara State and that some names were featured. That is why the commission in accordance with the provision of Section 15(3) of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended), requested one of the leading security agencies to further investigate the matter.

“The suspects were subsequently handed over for further interrogation and the key findings are that the 16,800 bags of rice comprising 28 trucks were all brought to Kano from other states.

“Contrary to the popular notion, the goods do not emanate from either the Federal Government or any other Government in Nigeria, but belongs to an individual, a philanthropist who produced the rice and distributes amongst the various segments of the society as a support to Mr. President.

“The people handling the goods are working for that philanthropist who uses his personal resources for the programme. Now that it is established that, the goods are not public property and the people handling whatever exercise taking place in that warehouse are working for the owner of the goods, the Commission therefore in accordance with established protocols and extent laws decided to approach the court with the new findings for necessary action and convene this conference to clear the air about the development so far reached.”

Muhuyi thanked the good people of Kano State and encouraged them to continue providing the commission with vital information to help fighting corruption and other related offences in the state.

Kano Anti-Graft Agency Resolves Majority of Ombudsman-Related Complaints, Processes Over 1,395 Cases in One Year

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has made significant strides in the past year, resolving over 60% of Ombudsman-related complaints and handling a total of 1,395 cases.

This achievement was highlighted by the Commission’s Chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, during the International Ombuds Day 2024 celebration held on Thursday in Kano. The event was designed to promote the role of Ombudsman services in addressing public grievances and ensuring accountability in governance.

According to Rimingado, 70% of the cases received by the Commission over the past year were Ombudsman-related. Out of these, 60% have been successfully resolved, while 40% are still under investigation. He underscored the Commission’s commitment to transparency and prompt response to public complaints.

“This year, we received 1,395 petitions, and 70% were related to the Ombudsman services. We have resolved 60% of these cases and are actively working on the rest,” Rimingado stated.

The PCACC Chairman emphasized the Commission’s ongoing efforts to address a wide range of complaints, including issues related to corruption, public service delivery, and violations of citizens' rights. While significant progress has been made, Rimingado assured that the Commission remains focused on resolving the remaining cases.

In addition to outlining the Commission’s achievements, Rimingado also addressed calls to dismantle the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He rejected these calls, arguing that Nigeria’s anti-graft efforts would benefit from having multiple strong institutions, rather than reducing the number of agencies.

"We believe in the importance of maintaining a robust anti-corruption system. State-level bodies like ours complement the work of national agencies such as the EFCC. Scrapping the EFCC would weaken the fight against corruption, which requires both state and national efforts," Rimingado said.

He concluded by urging the public to continue utilizing the PCACC’s services to seek justice and redress for their grievances, reaffirming the Commission's dedication to improving its mechanisms for addressing complaints.

The event was part of a global initiative to raise awareness about the critical role Ombudsman institutions play in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested two suspects and invited three Permanent Secretaries for questioning over an alleged fraud involving the sale of employment forms in the Office of the Head of Service.

The commission’s Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday that the investigation was ongoing to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the scam.

He said that already, thousands of desperate job seekers have been affected by the fraud.

”Preliminary investigations have uncovered fraudulent activities at the office of the Head of Service, Civil Service Commission, Kano State Secondary Schools Board, and Health Service Management Board.

”The two suspects in custody are cooperating with the investigation, which has led to the shutdown of a fake employment portal.

”The commission is working to root out corruption and ensure justice is served in the employment fraud scandal that has defrauded thousands of job seekers,” Rimin-Gado said.

According to him, the ongoing investigation aims to expose and bring to justice those responsible for the fraudulent sale of the employment forms.

“The commission is working to prevent corruption and ensure that justice is served. The state government has mandated the commission to thoroughly investigate the matter and prosecute those found wanting.”
