Kano State Takes Bold Step with New Climate Change Policy to Combat Environmental Challenges

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a comprehensive Climate Change Policy Framework to address environmental degradation and climate change.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor's spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Friday.

Championed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the policy aims to protect public health, reduce emissions, and foster sustainable economic growth.  

Presented by Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, Commissioner for Environmental and Climate Change, the framework targets key sectors like Agriculture, Energy, Health, Transport, Education, and Urban Development.

Dr. Hashim emphasized its focus on local solutions, global partnerships, and access to climate funds. 

“This policy responds to daily climate challenges and aligns with global best practices,” he said.  

The policy focuses on reducing emissions through renewable energy, protecting vulnerable communities, promoting public participation, and ensuring gender-inclusive climate actions.

Governor Yusuf described it as central to his administration’s agenda for economic resilience and inclusive growth. “It’s about securing a sustainable future for all residents,” he stated.  

The policy also positions Kano State to attract international support and funding, strengthening its role as a regional leader in climate action. 

Dr. Hashim highlighted its role as a roadmap for a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy. “It will guide us in creating a sustainable future,” he added.  

Kano State’s adoption of this policy sets an example for other regions, demonstrating that local solutions and global collaboration can drive meaningful climate action.

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the approval of the reconstruction of the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi road at a cost of N13,350,209,134.89. 

The project aims to facilitate the smooth movement of farm produce and boost economic activities in the region.

The governor made this announcement during the official commissioning of the nine-kilometre Fulatan-Zarewa Danguzuri Road, constructed by the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and other partners.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf revealed that the construction company has already commenced preliminary work at the site. He emphasized that the project was awarded to a reputable firm to ensure the road’s durability and longevity.

Governor Yusuf also disclosed that the five-kilometre dualised road in Rogo Local Government Area is being reviewed for reassignment to another company to ensure its completion. 

He warned the contractor to expedite the work and meet the deadline, or risk having the contract revoked and reassigned to a more competent firm.

The governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to monitoring the execution of projects not only in Rogo but across the state to ensure quality delivery. 

He further announced the approval of the Rogo Council Chairman’s appeal for the construction of the Sundu-Gwangan road. 

"I have directed the Commissioner for Community Development to deploy engineers for a ground study and possible contract awarding," he said.

On education, Governor Yusuf noted the large population of primary and secondary school students who welcomed his entourage. 

He pledged to construct additional classrooms and provide learning materials to enhance the conducive learning environment in the area.

Regarding empowerment initiatives, the governor directed the council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, to ensure prudent selection of 100 women for a monthly stipend of N5,000 and to enroll youths in the 26 reopened Entrepreneurial Institutions. 

He expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to him and reassured the community of his administration’s commitment to prioritizing their needs for rapid development.

Earlier, Chairman Mustapha commended Governor Yusuf for his efforts in delivering developmental projects to the area and appealed for the construction of the Sundu-Gwangan road in Rogo Local Government Area.

 Similarly, the District Head of Rogo, Dan Isan Karaye, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, who represented the Emir, praised the governor for his laudable projects in the emirate and called for more developmental initiatives.

Governor Yusuf Declares War on Corruption and Injustice in Kano

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to fighting corruption, injustice, and oppression in the state.

Speaking at the commissioning of a newly constructed 9-kilometer road linking Fulatan, Zarewa, and Danguzuri in Rogo Local Government, Governor Yusuf symbolically drew a sword presented to him by Dr. Ishaq Falalu Zarewa on behalf of the community. 

The gesture, accompanied by a handwritten copy of the Qur’an, was in recognition of his government’s efforts to complete the vital road project aimed at boosting economic activities and improving the lives of rural dwellers.

The governor declared that his administration would not tolerate corruption, exploitation, or any form of injustice that hinders the progress of Kano State. 

He assured residents that his government remains committed to enhancing infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and ensuring that governance serves the best interest of the people.

“This road is a testament to our dedication to improving trade and agriculture in this region. We will continue to prioritize development projects that directly impact the lives of our people,” Governor Yusuf stated.

This marks the third time Governor Yusuf has publicly demonstrated his readiness to confront any elements seeking to destabilize Kano State. 

He urged the people to remain steadfast in supporting good governance and pledged to work tirelessly towards making Kano greater than it was before 2023.

Kano Governor Commissions 9km Road to Boost Market Linkages in Rogo

As part of efforts to enhance rural development and improve market access for agricultural produce, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned the newly constructed 9-kilometer Fulatan-Zarewa-Dan Guzuri road in Rogo Local Government. 

The project was executed under the Kano Agropastoral Development Project (KSADP) to facilitate transportation, boost economic activities, and support local farmers.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in Kano.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the road would strengthen market linkages for rural products, support smallholder farmers, and contribute to poverty reduction and food security in the state. 

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to revitalizing abandoned projects, particularly the 5-kilometer road projects left incomplete by the immediate past administration. 

He assured that all remaining projects across Kano’s local governments would be completed within the 2025 fiscal year.

The governor also highlighted the state government’s ongoing investment in road infrastructure, including the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of major roads across Kano. 

He expressed appreciation to the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Lives and Livelihood Fund (LLF), and other development partners for their contributions to infrastructure projects in Kano. 

He noted that their collaboration had facilitated the construction of 70 kilometers of roads connecting several communities across the state’s three senatorial zones.

He called on residents of the benefiting communities to make good use of the new road and ensure its maintenance. 

He further reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with any organization committed to making Kano a better place than it was before 2023.

Governor Yusuf Launches 40-Bed Hospital in Zarewa Under SDG Intervention

In a strategic move to strengthen Kano State’s healthcare system, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has commissioned a 40-bed hospital in Zarewa, Rogo Local Government Area. 

The facility, constructed under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative, was facilitated by Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, as part of his 2024 Constituency Projects.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf commended Senator Kawu Sumaila for championing the project, noting that the hospital will significantly improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Zarewa and surrounding communities.

“This is a well-conceptualized 40-bed hospital, facilitated and constructed through the efforts of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the governor stated.

Governor Yusuf further directed the Kano State Hospitals Management Board to immediately deploy qualified and committed healthcare workers to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of medical services.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the health sector, the governor assured the people of Kano that his government will continue to invest in healthcare infrastructure to enhance the well-being of the state’s growing population.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, revealed that the hospital is designed to provide primary healthcare services to at least 20,000 patients. 

He added that the facility is fully equipped to offer laboratory services, routine immunization, and antenatal care programs.

Representing Senator Kawu Sumaila, Dr. Ishaq Falalu Zarewa reiterated that the hospital project was part of the senator’s commitment to fulfilling the campaign promises he made to his constituents.

Gombe Principals' Cup MVP Eyes Super Eagles, Real Madrid Shirt

The Most Valuable Player of the just concluded Gombe State Principals Cup Football Competition for secondary schools, Abdullahi Bello Aliyu, has said that his target is to play for Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga.

He also said his dream was to play for the Nigerian senior men's national football team, Super Eagles.

The former Kano Pillars FC feeder team player, who was a cynosure of all eyes in the opening and final matches of the one week soccer fiesta at the Pantami Stadium, told sports journalists that he also hopes to play for Gombe United FC in future.

The 22 years old SSS3 student of Savannah Group of Schools, added that he plans to go for trials after his final exams with the hope of signing professional contract soon.

"The final game was important to us and ee prepared for it but unfortunately we lost to settle for silver. We are going to start preparing for the next edition, even though some of us will not be there. I thank my teammates, Games Master and the school management for helping us to reach this far.

"My target is to play for Supper Eagles and Real Madrid, so I will continue to train hard to achieve that and become a great player like Victor Osimhen," Aliyu said.

The ongoing Gombe State Inter Secondary Schools Athletics Championship featuring participants from across the state’s 11 local  government areas has proven as a revaluation ground of future talents. With the championship coming to an end this 

weekend, some schools are already celebrating their achievements, awards, and standout performances.

The competition has not only highlights individual athletic prowess but also fosters school spirit and camaraderie among students.

One of the standout performers was U-20 Boy’s 3000m champion, Lamech Danladi who represented Diocesan High 

School Bulari. Danladi set a personal best record (PB) enroute his victory.

Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Shehu Abubakar are the champions of the 2025 Gombe State Inter Secondary School Principal’s 

Cup. 

The school’s football team defeated Savannah School Gombe in a keenly final match played at the Gombe Stadium in Pantami on Friday evening to emerge champions of the five days soccer fiesta. Ademu Maigari scored the lone goal of the match seven minutes to hand his side the giant trophy of the competition and two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) cash prize. 

The GDSS’s victory over Savannah in the Gombe Principal’s Cup not only 

highlights the school’s soccer prowess but also fosters school pride and community spirit.

In the third match decided before thefinal match, Government Science Technical College (GSTC) defeated Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Academy 4-3

His Royal Highness Abubakar Shehu Abubakar made the commendation at the closing ceremony of the 5-day championship held at Pantami stadium.

The emir who was represented by Dan Adalan Gombe, Alhaji Muhammad Baba Mabani said that the championship will go along ways especially in recruiting the hidden talented athletes and at the same time improve their skills for future national and international engagements.

...As GDSS Doma, Shehu Abubakar Shine at Gombe Inter-secondary Schools Athletics, Principals Cup

The 2025 Gombe State Inter-secondary Schools Athletics and Principals Cup Football Competition came to a glittering end on Saturday with a colourful closing ceremony at the Pantami Stadium.

Medals were also given to deserving individual athletes and teams, who excelled at the one week sports extravaganza.

The closing ceremony, which was attended by Alhaji Mohammed Baba Magami, the representative of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, and the state Commissioner of Education, Dr. Aishatu Umar Maigari, also included the finals of the 400×100 relays for U-20 boys and girls, U-18 boys and girls and U-16 boys and girls.

Besides the competitive events, there was also the invitational relays for higher institutions, which Gombe Athletics Academy dusted North-East University and Gombe State Polytechnic to clinch gold.

Earlier on Friday evening, GDSS Shehu Abubakar defeated Savannah Group of Schools Gombe 4-3 on penalties after playing 0-0 in regulation time to win football gold, while Government Science Technical College (GSTC) Gombe defeated IDP Academy 1-0 to claim bronze medal.

In athletics, GGMC Doma garnered 9 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals to top the medals table; GVTC Kamara came second with 8 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronzes, while GDSS Bolari East placed third on the standings with 6 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.

The fourth position went to GDSS Ahmadu Gombe with 5 gold, zero silver and zero bronze medals; Diocesan High School was fifth with 4 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Out of the 73 secondary schools that featured in the athletics events, only 24 schools registered their names on the medals table, with Sechem Academy languishing at the basement with one (1) bronze medal.

There were also individual awards for Abdullahi Bello Aliyu, who won the Most Valuable Player award in football; the Best Goalkeeper award and the Highest Goals Scorer award in the football event.

Forgery Case: Court Issues Arrest Warrant for NSCDC Official

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has obtained a bench warrant from the Federal Capital Territory High Court Apo, Abuja against Jubrin Buba, a staff of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for refusing to appear for arraignment.

The case of Federal Republic of Nigeria vs Jubrin Buba came up on Wednesday for arraignment de novo. However, the defendant was not in court neither his lawyer nor his surety, despite being duly notified.

In view of Buba’s absence, counsel to ICPC, Mr. Aniekan Ekong, urged the Court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest and that notice should also be issued to the surety to show cause as to why the bail bond should not be forfeited to the federal government.

The presiding judge, Honourable Justice Binta Dogonyaro, granted the application and adjourned the matter to 4th March 2025 for arraignment and hearing.

ICPC is arraigning Buba on a six-count charge of forgery and false statements.

According to the ICPC, Buba, sometime in February 2015, fraudulently presented a fake BSc. Degree Certificate in Public Administration dated 7th October 2009 purportedly issued by the University of Jos, to secure a job with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Using a forged document as genuine, is an offence under Section 366, and punishable under Section 364, of the Penal Code.

He was formerly arraigned in 2022 before Hon. Justice Asma’u Akanbi (as then was), at the FCT High Court, Kubwa.

Following the elevation of Justice Akanbi to the Court of Appeal, the matter was re-assigned to FCT High Court 46, Apo presided over by Honourable Justice Binta Dogonyaro.

In counts one and two, Buba is being charged with making a false statement to a public officer contrary to section 25 (1) (a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

While in counts three to four, he is being charged with forgery contrary to section 364 of the Penal Code.

Gombe State athlete, Lamech Danladi, has voiced a heartfelt appeal to the state government for support and funding.

The 20-year-old student of Diocesan High School in Gombe made the passionate appeal after clinching U-20 Boy’s 1500m gold medal at the ongoing Gombe State Inter Secondary School Athletics Championship in Gombe Stadium at Pantami on Wednesday.

Danladi, said after finishing first ahead of other contestants, believed that with adequate resources, he can bring home a medal for Gombe State from Gateway Games Ogun 2024.

“My dream has always been to represent my state at the National Sports Festival and my country at the international level.

“My target is to win gold medal at the next National Sports Festival, but achieving this goal requires not just personal effort but also substantial support.

SOLID MINERAL: KNSG Moves to Settle Disagreement Between Riruwai Community and a Mining Company on CDA

As part of its oversight functions of close monitoring and supervision of mining activities across the state, Kano Ministry of Solid Mineral and Natural Resources Commissioner, Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu, Tuesday in his office, convened a strategic fact-finding meeting with a high powered delegation from Riruwai Community in Doguwa local Government Area.

The meeting according to the Commissioner was organized on the directive of the state Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to identify the remote and immediate cause of a lingering disagreement between two different indigenous  community stakeholders particularly what one of the  parties regard as  'poor compliance' to Community Development Agreement (CDA) by Century Mining Company (CMC) in the community and to recommend proper solution accordingly.

In a statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Adamu Ibrahim Dabo, said Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu emphasized during the meeting that ...... 'you see, there is the need to have mutual understanding, tolerance and respect among the contending parties, just to resolve the disagreement once for all. Yes,  the State interest is really above that of any individual or group  as per Solid Minerals Exploration and Exploitation in the state is concerned as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf major concerns are primarily the community welfare, Safeguarding environment and public security, no more no less.

Highlighting during the meeting, the Special Adviser to Governor on Solid Minerals, Alhaji Aminu Abba Ibrahim maintained that apart from the strict compliance to the stipulated CDA, every mining company must ensure effective payment of Royalties and cooperate fully with host state government otherwise face the full wrath of the existing laws governing the conduct of the mining operations across the nation.

Engineer Usman Sule Riruwai the leader of the high powered delegation from Riruwai Community explained further 'considering the fact that the other contending party remains recalcitrant, we have no option rather than to formally intimate the higher authority, the State Governor to wade into the matter with a view to finding a lasting and amicable solution to the lingering disagreement'.

A resolution was later reached that the Commissioner and the Special Adviser on Solid Minerals will have a similar meeting with the other party as well the company in the very near future and to subsequently organise another meeting comprising both parties in attendance with a view to synergize and arrive at a collective lasting but workable solution on all the issues at hand.

The Federal Mines Officer in charge of Kano State Engineer Ahmed Musa who represented the Federal Ministry of Mines and Solid Minerals Development pledged to cooperate towards having better understanding and cooperation on the matter in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations governing the solid mineral sector.

Kano Government Strengthens Collaboration With PLANE To Revive Education Sector

Kano State Government has reiterated it's commitment in strengthening collaboration with Partnership For Leaning For All in Nigeria (PLANE) to revive the state education sector.

The State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving a team from the PLANE (FCDO) office, Kano that paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

In a statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, said Dr. Ali Haruna noted that the intervention programmes implemented by PLANE in Kano had contributed a lot to the present administration's effort in ensuring quality education in the state.

The Commissioner stressed that Kano State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf will therefore continue to work closely with PLANE to ensure proper implementation of its new policies on education for the benefit of people in the state.

" We have seen the programmes that you have been undertaking and all the supports you are giving to more especially Kano State Ministry of Education. This is the support that you give to the entire people of Kano State.

" From your good report, you almost taught every aspect of education which is quite interesting and there is no doubt that PLANE is complementing effort of this administration on education development, you are really partners in progress " Acknowledged Dr. Makoda.

On the requests made by the team on other areas of support from the government site, Dr. Ali Makoda said his ministry will ensure that all demands tabled by the PLANE will be adequately attended to achieve better results.

" So, as we really thank and appreciate your intervention programmes on education in Kano, we are still urging PLANE to fully engaged with present administration in providing access to quality education to address out of school syndicate " he stated.

Earlier, the state coordinator PLANE Umar Lawan said the team was at the Commissioner's office to intimate him on the numerous intervention programmes on education sector as executed in Kano by PLANE.

Umar Lawan explained that PLANE is a 7 year project funded by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in UK and is divided in to three windows to deliver more educational supports to the affected states.

He revealed that in PLANE, there is window one that takes care of getting the system right by improving teaching and learning in schools while window two is given the task of addressing issues on education in emergency.

" We have window three that deals with interface between the programme and the community and it is interesting to note that window one which supports teaching and learning strengthening is operated in three states comprising Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna " he revealed.

He explained that under the project, over 8000 primary schools teachers were trained in Kano and the program was conducted with full collaboration of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)

Other intervention programmes according to the team leader, include coordination of books distribution and other learning materials at the classroom level across the 532 schools in Kano, supporting 35 school based management committee that sensitized stakeholders on book care and maintenance among others.

NSC, AFN officials poor attitude towards individual sponsored competitions worry stakeholders

 

Sports Stakeholders  across all sectors have frowned at the National Sports Commission (NSC)  and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) officials over their non challant attitude by not attending Competitions organised and sponsored by individual when invited.

During a media chat, Stakeholders noted that these national sports  agencies and their heads hardly attend privately sponsored sports  programme when invited.

These views were expressed at the opening ceremony of the 5-day Gombe Inter-secondary School Athletics Championships at Pantami Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking further, the organiser and sponsor of the Championship Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe regretted that concerned individuals would spend their hard earned funds to organise competitions invite the NSC and AFN officials and they won't attend.

Aside stakeholders saying they will officially table the matter before NSC and AFN hierarchy, Hon.Gara Gombe maintained that those governing sports at the national level seem not to care about individual sponsorship of sports Competitions because they will not benefit.

Gombe said, "This attitude is not limited to those at the national level, adding that at the State level, it is worse, they won't even send a representative".

Governor Inuwa to declare Gombe Inter Schools Athletics, Football Championship open Tuesday

The 2025 Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics Championship and Grassroots Football Competition will commence tomorrow Tuesday at the Patani Stadium.

The participating athletes, officials and other stakeholders, including journalists, have arrived Gombe, the state capital city ahead of the sports fiesta.

According to the event programmes released by the organisers, the Governor Inuwa Yahaya is topping the list of dignitaries invited for the opening ceremony of the championships being put together by the Gombe State Athletics Association under leadership of Ahmed Gara Gombe in collaboration with the Green White Green (GWG) Sports Center Limited.

His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III the Emir of Gombe, who is also the chairman of Gombe State Council Of Emir will serve as the royal Father of the Day during the opening ceremony of the competition featuring athletes from 73 schools in 11 local government areas of the State.

Other distinguish guests expected at the opening ceremony are Professor, Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi, the secretary to the state government, Commissioner for Education in Gombe State, Professor, Aishatu Umar Maigari and his Youth and Sports counterpart, Alhaji Adamu Inuwa Pantami.

The chairman of Gombe State Athletics Association, Ahmed Gara Gombe, who is also the director general of the competition, explained that the State Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), are fully behind this initiative.

The SUBEB chairman in the State, Alhaji Babaji Babadidi, will also be attendance at the occasion with Barrister Sani Haruna, the ALGON Chairman Gombe State and Chairman Gombe Local Government Area.

Anti-Corruption Agency Cracks Down on Land-Grabbing Syndicate in Kano, Arrests Key Suspects

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has uncovered a major land-grabbing syndicate, recovering over 1,200 plots of land and arresting several key players.

The commission has launched an extensive investigation into the syndicate, accused of manipulating legal and administrative systems to fraudulently acquire public and private lands.

Addressing journalists, the Chairman of the PCACC, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, revealed that the syndicate allegedly operated with the assistance of judiciary staff, lawyers, and land officials. "Preliminary findings have exposed a well-organized network of fraudsters exploiting loopholes to forge documents, backdate agreements, and obtain fake court judgments," he said.

Modus Operandi of the Syndicate

Rimingado detailed the group's operations, explaining how they colluded with influential individuals to legitimize their fraudulent activities. "They target properties of deceased individuals, absentee owners, or unsuspecting landowners, using forged affidavits and backdated documents to claim ownership," he stated.

One case involved 40 plots of land, where the rightful owner still held valid ownership certificates. "Despite no mortgage or transfer, the syndicate seized the land. We've recovered these plots, valued at over ₦20 million, and returned them to the owner," Rimingado disclosed, presenting evidence of the fraud.

Arrests and Evidence

Several suspects, including lawyers and public officials, were apprehended during the operation. Among them was a key figure caught with ₦2,857,000 in cash, allegedly intended to bribe officers for his release.

Rimingado said, "The suspect attempted to use the cash as a bribe during his arrest, which adds to the evidence against him."

The chairman also confirmed that some legal practitioners and officials were directly involved, drafting fraudulent agreements and facilitating the schemes.

Legal Action and Systemic Reforms

PCACC has vowed to prosecute all suspects, working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other stakeholders. Rimingado emphasized, "We will pursue legal action based on advice to ensure justice is served and future occurrences are prevented."

He highlighted how the syndicate manipulated the legal system by filing fake applications, creating non-existent defendants, and obtaining fraudulent consent judgments. "These judgments were used to intimidate legitimate landowners, with courts unknowingly granting orders based on falsified affidavits," Rimingado explained.

Government Support and Future Plans

The PCACC chairman commended the Kano State Government for its support in reforming land administration. "This investigation is a milestone in our fight against corruption. It will restore sanity to the system and deter others from engaging in such activities," he said.

The commission remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability, with ongoing investigations and reforms promising a more secure land administration system in Kano.

Kano Inaugurates 14 - Member Committee To Review Education Policies

Following the recent declaration of State of Emergency on Education and the ongoing commitment in overhauling the state education sector, Kano State Government has inaugurated a high profiled 14 - Member Committee to review some existing policies on education.

Inaugurating the committee today Wednesday at the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD) Conference Hall, the State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda disclosed that the committee was constituted by the Kano State Executive Council to look in to the policies of education in the state.

" This committee is supposed to be inaugurated by His Excellency himself but due to official engagements, His Excellency has assigned me to inaugurate this very important committee so that by next week, we can swing in to action " he said 

In a statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, said, Dr. Ali Makoda outlined the committee terms of reference which include among others; to peruse the four existing policies on education and determine whether they aligned with cultural and religious belief of the state, to determine the feasibility of implementing the policies and whether they can help in strengthening the educational sector of the state and bring any other appropriate recommendations.

According to the Commissioner, the four education policies to be reviewed by the committee involved Kano State Girls' Education Policy, Kano State Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Policy, Kano State Non-State School Policy and Kano State Teacher Development Policy.

Members of the committee include Malam Abdullahi Muhd Dutse as Chairman, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu, Executive Chairman Zakka and Hubsi Commission Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri, Alhaji Danlami Garba, Kano State Commissioner Ministry of Women, Children and Disabled Affairs Hajiya Amina Abdullahi HOD and Isa Ahmad a retired Permanent Secretary.

Other Members include Special Adviser to the Governor on Emirate Council Professor Tijjani Muhammad Naniya, Malam Kabiru Sani Hanga, Munzali M. Mustapha, Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education Professor Auwal Halliru Arzai, Chief Imam Alfurqan Jumma'at Mosque Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Representative of the Emirate Council, Representative of Civil Society Organizations Nura Ja'afar Kura and Ibrahim Bawa Director Archives and Publication as Secretary.

Dr. Makoda who announced that the committee was given three weeks to submit its report, urged the members to use their vast experiences in coming out with the good report that will enhance the state education sector.

Responding, the Chairman of the committee Malam Abdullahi Muhammad Dutse assured the Commissioner of their commitment to work as a team to justify the confidence reposed in them.

" If you look at the composition of the committee members, I am sure government has selected several areas which require our own intelligence to look in to the problem of education in this state. I believe we will do all the best we can to provide you with much needed report " he assured.

Bird Influenza: Kano Residents Urged to Remain Calm

Amid growing fear in Kano state about the rumoured outbreak of avian influenza, also known as bird flu, the state government has urged residents to remain calmed and report any suspected case of the disease to the authority concerned.

In a statement signed by the Information Officer of the Ministry, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said, the rumoured emanated following a report that sometime in December 2024 a young man from Gwale LGA bought a duck from Janguza market in Tofa LGA and introduced to his stock comprising hens, guinea fowls and chickens. Later he noticed that his birds were showing respiratory distress and then there was mortality; out of 50 birds, 35 died. 

He then decided to bring sample to Gwale veterinary clinic for diagnosis of which in the first week of January 2025, bird flu virus was confirmed on the samples.

Immediately upon recipt of the result, the state ministry of agriculture proactively sealed the place, depopulated the remaining chickens and decontaminated the compound. The ministry also decontaminated the premises of selling live birds in Janguza market and sensitized sellers on the affect of the bird flu.

Reacting, today, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, in a press release from the public relation unit of the ministry, urged people of the state to remain calmed as the case is not a worrisome to be declared outbreak.

The commissioner said that the ministry is on top of the issue and taking proactive measures to confront the disease so as to contain its negative effect before it becomes deadly.

Dr. Labaran said that due to the fact that bird flu infects human and causes havoc to the body, he converged a meeting with Emergency Preparedness Response and One Health committees comprising ministries of agriculture, environment and water resources as well as partners in order to discuss and strategize ways to confronting the issue.

He stated that, "For now, this was what we have been doing. Meeting would be held every week with the stakeholders, and public would be regularly informed about the issue.

"Surveillance would be intensified in every LGA, especially among poultry and other bird rearers and reports would be sent to these committees on daily basis and inform Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the situation."

The commissioner explained that symptoms of bird flu include fever, mucous, redness of eyes, etc, urging people especially the poultry rearers to be the first surveillance officers in order to safeguard their flocks and wealth and report unhealthy wellbeing of their birds to relevant authorities for timely action to be taken.

73 schools in 11LGA's confirm readiness for Gombe Inter-Schools Athletics Championships

The Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Competition 2025 has received a boost with 73 schools across 11 Local Government Areas have officially registered to participate in the championship.

This highly anticipated event, scheduled to take place from 19th to 25th January 2025, will be held at the prestigious Pantami Township Stadium situated in Gombe Metropolis.

The competition, which includes public and private schools such as GDSS Dukku West, GSS Bolari East, Emerald International Academy, and Diocesan High School, aims at promoting sportsmanship, uncover young athletic talents, and foster youth development.

Participants will compete in varieties of events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m races, 4x100m and 4x400m relays, shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and javelin throw, among others. 

Football matches are also scheduled, with youth football teams for boys competing in exciting games leading to the finals.

Also note that scouts from Germany led by a former captain of Flying Eagles, a EUFA Licence Coach Adrew Uwe and Coach Henry Ambrose from AGIC-DIASPORA FOOTBALL OUTREACH will be in Gombe to scout for talents during the

Principal's Cup football Competition.

The opening ceremony will include a match pass, which kicks off on 19th January, while the closing ceremony on 25th January will feature the presentation of medals and awards to outstanding athletes and schools.

This initiative, organized by the Gombe State Athletics Association under the leadership of Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara-Gombe and sponsored by the Green White Green Sports Center, also includes the Principals Cup Football Competition, bringing together over 3,500 athletes and footballers across the 11 Local Government Areas in the State

Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, in a press statement issued on Wednesday named 12 top athletics officials with vast experience in managing big athIetics event headed by Honourable Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe will take charge of the competition.

Hon. Gara Gombe, a former board member of Nigeria Football Association now Nigeria Football Federation will be the competition Director General while Dr. Alex Sule Mana is the competition manager.

Prince Simon Ayuba, is the Competition Technical Manager, Chief Track Judge is Abbas Mohammed and Gama Yakubu is Chief Field Judge as well as referee alongside Solomon Achi the Chief Time Keeper.

In a virtual interview with journalist Nura Ahmad  from Abu Dhabi, Yusuf Tuggar, launches a scathing criticism against the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, Tuggar accuses the governor of mismanaging the state’s resources and failing to deliver meaningful development since assuming office.

Ambassador Tuggar highlighted that in October last year, Bauchi State received over eight billion naira in federal allocation, nearly double its previous allocations. However, he claimed there was little to show for it in terms of development across critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

The minister further accused the governor of mismanaging land in Bauchi State in a manner reminiscent of his tenure as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. “You are not that clean to be part of public affairs,” Tuggar remarked pointedly during the interview.

Tuggar also addressed Senator Bala Mohammed's rumored ambition to contest for the presidency, asserting that such aspirations are ill-suited for someone he described as a failed leader. "The position of president is not for people like him," he added.

The Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized the need for transformation in Bauchi State, calling for better governance to address the pressing challenges in agriculture, education, and healthcare delivery.

Ambassador Tuggar also accused the Bauchi State Government of unlawfully seizing farmlands from their rightful owners in the name of lie, subjecting them to harsh conditions. 

He further alleged that some government officials had been diverting commercial agricultural loans for their personal benefit, leaving the people of the state to bear the consequences.

These additional allegations add to the growing concerns over governance and resource management in Bauchi State under Governor Bala Mohammed.
