Family of Founder of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) through Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu, has described the approval granted by National Universities Commission of full operational license as a clear indication of the management's commitment and determination towards the upliftment of teaching and learning in the university.

Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu was speaking during the presentation of operational license to the famous University held at the university's premises.

He expressed excitement over the array of successes recorded within a short span of granting their request which he said would not be unconnected with the leadership skills commitment and zeal of the duo of Governing council's Chairman Professor Kabiru Isyaku and that of the management headed by Professor Abdulrashid Garba 

Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu assured the NUC's team that the university will continue to provide all necessary support and cooperation with a view to complementing the Federal government's efforts in improving teaching and learning countrywide.

In his remarks, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the university Professor Sani Zahradeen, described securing operational licence as part of the late founder of the institution Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu's positive legacies 

Professor Sani Zahradeen charged both the academic and non academic staffers of the university to redouble efforts aimed at making it second to none nationwide 

On his part, chairman of the Governing council, Professor Kabiru Rabiu who was highly overwhelmed, said with the rate of development, attained all hands must be on deck in order to ensure the university sustain its impressive progression.

Professor Kabiru Isyaku however applauded the NUC and all those who contributed directly or indirectly in reaching the feat.praying to God to reward them superbly 

Earlier, the university's Vice chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba reechoed the commitment, cooperation and support by all and sundry, which he said played a significant role in ensuring the ends justify the means, which according to him will remain in the annals of history

NFF President Affirms NPFL Season Kickoff for August 22

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has reiterated that there will be no change to the kickoff date of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, which is scheduled to begin on August 22.

Speaking on Friday in Lafia while declaring open the NPFL 2025/26 pre-season seminar, Gusau described it as a positive development that the league calendar now aligns with that of European clubs. He urged stakeholders to maintain their support for the Gbenga Elegbeleye-led board, which achieved the milestone.

 “When we came on board, we had no choice but to opt for an abridged league. This paved the way for achieving uniformity, as our league ended in May last season. This season, too, we will start on August 22 as scheduled,” he said.

The NFF President praised the NPFL board for amplifying the league’s profile to the international community and for their commitment to adopting global best practices.

Earlier, NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye assured that the board will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to promote the league and attract sponsorship, promising to sustain the high standards set over the past two seasons.

The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, representing Governor Abdullahi Sule, commended the NPFL for choosing Nasarawa State as the host of the pre-season seminar and pledged continued support for football development in Nigeria.

The seminar brought together all 20 NPFL media officers, along with the league’s Chief Security Officer and the Chairman of the Supporters Club, for training sessions ahead of the new season.

NLNG RA Gymnastics Club shines at South African Championship

Nigerian gymnastics took center stage at the Centurion Gymnastics Centre Club Competition in South Africa, with NNLG RA Gymnastics Club emerging as one of the standout Nigerian teams, clinching a memorable gold medal and delivering strong performances that underscored the club’s rising prominence.

The international event in Centurion, Pretoria, attracted over 250 gymnasts from clubs across South Africa and Uganda, including renowned clubs such as Klerksdorp, Centurion, Tuks, Visions, Paragon, Bloemfontein, and Jacobsdal.

Nigeria was represented by two clubs -TIG International Gymnastics Club

and NNLG RA Gymnastics Club — both showcasing immense talent and discipline.

However, NLNG RA’s gymnasts captured attention with their resilience and technical brilliance.

The highlight for NNLG RA was Oluwapelumi Ilesanmi’s gold medal-winning performance, which she described as a “dream come true.”

Team coordinator of the RA Gymnastics Club, Mrs Nnenna Ahube, praised the gymnasts’ dedication and focus, noting that their performance exceeded expectations despite facing stiff competition.

Solid Performance by TIG International Gymnastics Club

TIG International Gymnastics Club made a strong impact, winning two gold, five silver, and one bronze medal.

Their gold medalists included Angela Marinoni and Dida David, who impressed with polished, technically precise routines. 

Senior gymnast Chenille Okpanku earned five silver medals across multiple apparatus, finishing second overall, while Jochbed Ibrahim rounded off the club’s success with a bronze medal.

NANPF Appoints CSP Kalu Chijioke as Director of Players' Safety and Security

In a decisive move to bolster players' welfare in Nigerian football, the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) has announced the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kalu Chijioke as the Director of Players’ Safety and Security.

The appointment was formally communicated to the Force Sports Officer, CP Tony Emefile PSC, FSI, via an official letter signed by the NANPF leadership and addressed to the office of the Inspector General of Police in Abuja.

NANPF, an affiliate of both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), represents the collective interests and welfare of professional footballers across Nigeria.

The union is currently headed by former Nigerian international, Abe Sunday.

In the appointment letter, the union expressed confidence in CSP Kalu Chijioke’s extensive experience in sports administration and his longstanding commitment to the well-being of Nigerian athletes.

According to NANPF, his leadership will ensure the implementation of critical safety and security policies that safeguard players both on and off the pitch.

“CSP Kalu’s unconfined passion and professional track record make him the ideal candidate for this role,” the statement read.

“His involvement will empower the Union and, by extension, all Nigerian professional footballers to benefit from expert safety and security guidance as they carry out their daily activities.”

The union also called for the full support and cooperation of relevant law enforcement and sports bodies to ensure CSP Kalu Chijioke functions effectively in his new role.

This landmark appointment signals NANPF's renewed commitment to players' safety and sets a new benchmark for professional athlete support in Nigerian football.

CSP Kalu Chijioke Erem, a member of the NPF Sports Planning Committee, also serves on the board of the Mixed Martial Arts Federation and is a member of the NOC Technical & Development Committee. 

He is expected to bring his 20 years of law enforcement experience to bear in opening a new chapter for players' welfare and safety in Nigeria.

Sheikh Nuhu donates security tools to Kano vigilantes command

Kano state Police command has expressed appreciation to Sheikh Nuhu Idris Saleh for donating security gadgets to Kano state Vigilante command aimed at supplementing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf efforts in tackling crime and sustaining peace across the state.

The state commissioner of police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori made commendation while receiving the security tools donations held at the officers mess, Bompai. kano.

The commissioner who was represented by his deputy (operations), DC Lawan Mani described the donations as timely considering the important of security in the state.

He called on other wealthy individuals, politicians and corporate organisations to contribute their quota towards sustaining peace and the development of the state and the country at large.

The commissioner charged the leadership of the state Vigilante command to judiciously utilize the donations for the overall development of the state.

Earlier, the donor of the items, Sheikh Nuhu Idris Saleh from Saudi Arabia said the donations was part of his little contributions to support the vigilantes in order to ease their job.

Sheikh Nuhu Idris Saleh who spoke through a veteran journalist and community leader Ambassador Aliyu Lawan Saulawa said Sheikh has been supporting various segment of human endeavours financially and morally aimed at uplifting their status in the society.

In his remarks, the commander of Kano state Vigilante, Ambassador Shehu Rabiu commended the donor over gesture, assuring that the security tools will be use judiciously.

The items donated include one thousand of Gora, 500 pieces of rechargable touch light, four solar panal, four batteries, 200 water proof jackets and 100 whistles.

Highlights of the event include presentation of the items to the state commissioner of police for upwards to the vigilantes command.

Kano Govt. Trains Public Secondary Schools Teachers On Modern Fish Farming

The Kano State Government has commenced refresher training of over 72 secondary schools teachers on modern fish farming to ensure step down training to students across the state.

Declaring the training open organized by Kano State Educational Resource Department (KERD), the State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda revealed that the move is part of government's effort to make students self reliance.

Dr. Ali Makoda explained that the program was designed to be a train the trainer refresher course where the participants who also teach fisheries in schools would eventually embark on step down training to students across the state.

According to the Commissioner, Kano Government is committed to providing entrepreneurship training to Secondary Schools Students across the state to make them self reliance after leaving schools.

" Vocational skills are the most effective means of improving students’ livelihoods, especially at this time. This government is initiating more ways to provide Students with necessary skills to become self reliance and sustain their family in future " said Makoda.

He therefore urged the participants to fully utilize what they are going to learn for effective step down training for students in schools.

Ali Makoda cited that Kano State like China, has been blessed with population if fully utilized, would help in boosting the state economy sector, stressing that...." this is what the present administration is doing to achieve economic stability through heavy educational investment".

Makoda further commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for giving the ministry of education the opportunity to deliver its mandates effectively.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed who outlined overview of the training, explained that the government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf had done all what is needed to enhancing the quality of education in the state.

Earlier, the Director Kano Educational Resource Department Hajiya Rabi Inuwa Hussain explained the purpose of establishing the center and how it would benefit students across the state.

During the program, the Commissioner was conducted round to supervise the newly established Fish Ponds where the participants acquired practical knowledge on modern fish farming.

Kano State Governor Assures Development Partners Judicious Spending of Fund

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has  assured the Development Partners that funds allocated to the state would be judiciously used.

He added since the assumption of present administration in 2023 accountability is the bedrock of the government.

Governor Yusuf, ably represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr Suleiman Wali Sani (mni) when the Development Partners that include: Gates Foundation, GAVI, UNICEF, WHO, CHAI and eHealth paid a courtesy call at Government House Kano said that the government welcomes partnerships and collaborations.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Kano State Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, Monday.

The Governor informed the team that the government will continue to collaborate with the partners and commended the partners on interventions in Kano State, including the 28 health facilities in Kano.

Earlier on, the GAVI Senior Country Manager for Nigeria, Jessica Crawford, who spoke on behalf of all the Organizations, said they are here to discuss further partnerships and support, to also highlight the successes and challenges.

She emphasized on the Judicious used of the funds to have mutual accountability between the government and the partners.

According to her, Kano is a major critical partner for them as they believe Kano is the face setter in Nigeria.

Anything succeeded in Kano will gain success across the country. "If project is successful in Kano is successful in Nigeria.

FG’s Alau Dam Project on Track, Says Minister Utsev

The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has reaffirmed that the Federal Government’s reconstruction and upgrade of the Alau Dam is progressing on schedule and will deliver lasting solutions to flooding, water supply challenges, and agricultural needs in Borno State.

In a statement by the Director Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, the Minister made this known during a working visit to the dam site in Maiduguri on 7th August 2025, where he led a high-powered delegation from the Ministry to inspect the ongoing works.

Speaking with journalists, Prof. Utsev explained that the first phase of the project, targeted at flood mitigation, commenced in March 2025 and is expected to be completed by September 2025. The second phase, which focuses on the full-scale upgrade of the dam, will begin in October 2025 and is scheduled for completion by March 2027.

Prof. Utsev reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, approved the reconstruction and upgrading of Alau Dam. He further added:

“This intervention is critical, not just to prevent another disaster, but to reposition this dam as a multipurpose facility for drinking water, irrigation, and even hydro-power generation in the near future.”

He recalled the Alau Dam incident of September 2024, which caused severe flooding, loss of lives, and the destruction of infrastructure and property worth billions of naira, and highlighted that the ongoing reconstruction aims to ensure that such a tragedy does not recur.

During the inspection, the Minister visited the main dam gated spillway and proceeded to the cofferdam, where the contractor is currently filling and reinforcing the structure. He noted that the water levels remained under control at the time of the visit, and reassured the public that there was no cause for alarm. He further revealed that the contractor is executing the work professionally and in line with approved timelines.

He directed that necessary adjustments be made to the dam’s gates to allow for controlled water flow, ensuring safety during the rainy season.

The Minister urged the Borno State Government to intensify public sensitisation, especially among local farmers, to halt agricultural activities along the dam’s embankment, which he noted could compromise the safety and structural integrity of the project.

“We understand that some farmers are still cultivating around the dam embankment, which poses a serious risk to both the workers and the infrastructure,” he warned. “We are appealing to the State Government to begin a strong awareness campaign to stop this.”

Prof. Utsev expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for the upgrading and reconstruction of the dam, and to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his strong commitment to the people of Borno. He stressed that once completed, the dam will be a game-changer for water security and agriculture in the region.

He commended the media for their role in communicating government programmes and urged continued support in informing the public about key national developments.

The Minister also made a stopover at River Ngada  Bridge, which is hydrologically linked to the Alau Dam, as part of efforts to understand the broader water dynamics of the area.

Following the field inspection, Engr. Utsev paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, at the Government House, Maiduguri, to inform him of the purpose of the dam inspection.

He was accompanied on the inspection visit by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah; the Director of Dams and Reservoirs, Engr. Ali Dallah; the Director of River Basin Operations and Inspectorate, Engr. Christy Oduh; and other senior officials. The team was also joined by Borno State Government representatives, including the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Tijani Alkali.

Kano Flags Off Lungu Kal-Kal Project in Yakasai to Boost Urban Renewal

The Kano State Government has commissioned the Lungu Kal-Kal project at Layin Dan’isa, Yakasai Quarters, in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, marking another milestone in its ongoing urban renewal drive.

The project, inaugurated by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, is designed to improve infrastructure, enhance drainage, reduce flooding, and uplift the overall living standards of residents in the area.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Hashim noted that the initiative is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to modernizing urban communities and providing essential amenities for the people. He commended the patience and cooperation of Yakasai residents throughout the project’s execution and assured them of the government’s continued dedication to improving their living conditions.

“This project reflects our determination to create cleaner, safer, and more resilient neighborhoods across Kano State,” the Commissioner stated.

Governor Yusuf reactivates malnutrition centre to save 17,000 severely malnourished children

In a major step towards combating child malnutrition, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reactivated Community Management of Acute Malnutrition centres across the 44 local government areas of the state, targeting over 17,000 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition.

A statement issued by tge Governor's Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, said the intervention marks the first comprehensive effort in eight years, following the abandonment of the programme by the immediate past administration, a move that significantly contributed to a worrying 51.9% stunting rate, meaning one in every two children in Kano is affected.

Speaking during the official unveiling of the revitalized malnutrition treatment centre in Takai Local Government Area, Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over the dire nutritional condition affecting thousands of children in the state. He described the neglect as unacceptable and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to child survival and development.

Governor Yusuf disclosed that the state government has paid a counterpart contribution of N500 million to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which facilitated the procurement of 12,948 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a lifesaving supplement for treating severe malnutrition.

“Our children are suffering innocently from a preventable condition. With this intervention, we are giving hope to over 17,000 vulnerable children and restoring confidence in primary healthcare,” the governor stated.

He further revealed that the government is scaling up the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW), which includes the provision of Vitamin A supplements for children aged 6–59 months and Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) for pregnant women, as part of a broader strategy to reduce malnutrition and maternal health challenges.

The Health Manager, UNICEF Field Office Kano, Dr. Serekeberehan Seyoum Deres, commended Kano State for being the highest single-state contributor to the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF) in Nigeria with the release of N500 million.

He noted that UNICEF, alongside development partners, has invested significantly in improving nutrition indicators in Kano and across Nigeria. Dr. Deres emphasized the importance of sustained funding and urged the Kano State Government to consider a second round of MNCHW by December 2025 and to procure adequate quantities of deworming tablets to reach all children aged 12–59 months.

He also appealed for the approval of six months of paid maternity leave for nursing mothers in the state, a policy he said is vital to protecting infant nutrition and promoting exclusive breastfeeding.

UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Kano State Government to strengthen multisectoral responses to nutrition and health challenges affecting women and children.

When history remembers the fight against corruption in Kano State, one name will inevitably stand out “Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado”. His tenure as the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) was nothing short of transformative. What he achieved was not a mere upgrade of an agency — it was a total reinvention, a shift from a symbolic institution to a functional powerhouse feared by the corrupt and admired by reformers.

"Muhyi, that place is not working, go and make it work." That was the charge given to Muhyi Magaji Rimingado on his first day as Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) by the then Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Years later, it’s safe to say: he did not just make it work — he made it matter.

When He took over the reins of the Commission, it was more or less a quiet conflict resolution center running traditional “Zauren Sulhu” reconciliation sessions. While important, it barely scratched the surface of the commission's full statutory mandate — to handle public complaints and fight corruption. For that mandate to come alive, transformation was not optional — it was imperative.

And transform he did.

First came the establishment of the Operations Department, a game-changing reform that turned the Commission into a functional anti-graft institution with investigative teeth — with the power to arrest and detain. This wasn’t just administrative flair; it was courage. He faced fierce resistance, legal battles, and political pushback. But he stood firm and won.

Then came the expansion. Under his leadership, recruitment became merit-based, and over 90% of the current workforce were brought in, trained, and deployed through his initiatives. He saw capacity building as the only way to sustain the Commission’s relevance. These were not just appointments — they were capacity-building initiatives that redefined the Commission’s efficiency and professionalism.

But that’s only the beginning of the story.

Muhyi didn’t just raise a building — he renovated the Commission’s infrastructure and rebuilt its reputation. Today, PCACC is a symbol of fear for corrupt individuals, many of whom now dread facing the Commission more than any other law enforcement body in the state. The institution became known not just by its acronym, but by its new unofficial name: “Wajen Muhyi” — Muhyi’s Place.

He pioneered a transformation that saw even the high and mighty figures, held accountable. In Kano, impunity lost its sanctuary.

As if building a state-wide structure wasn’t enough, Muhyi extended the Commission's reach to the grassroots by establishing and staffing Anti-Corruption offices in all 44 Local Government Areas. These aren't symbolic outposts — they are functional offices playing real roles in the anti-corruption war.

His legacy includes bold interventions like price control enforcement and crackdown on hoarding of essential goods (food stuffs) during COVID-19 crisis and fuel (amid scarcity of fuel). These actions didn’t just resonate in Kano; they earned national and international attention, highlighting a Commission unafraid to wade into economic justice where others hesitated.

In terms of legal structure, Muhyi ensured that the Commission’s activities were backed by a team of professional in-house lawyers through a Legal Unit he created.

His strategic leadership also embraced transparency and global best practices by signing Kano State into the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and initiating frameworks like the Kano Anti-Corruption Strategy (KANSACs) and Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) in all MDAs.

He understood that change without knowledge is fleeting. That’s why he spearheaded the creation of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute (KANCI) — an academic and capacity-building hub that regularly trains Commission staff, civil servants, and public officials, bridging the knowledge gap in governance and accountability.

He also made public engagement seamless and inclusive. Suggestion boxes appeared across MDAs, palaces, and strategic locations — giving everyday citizens a direct channel to speak truth to power. He brought technology into the fold, launching Shawarata, an online complaints platform, and the PCACC Management System, which streamlined internal communication and management processes.

Even with the clock ticking on his tenure, his zeal to institutionalize change never waned. One of his final acts was securing approval to recruit 43 new staff — a move that underscores his focus not on himself, but on the institution and the future.

In a time where public service often serves private interests, Muhyi Magaji Rimingado chose the road less travelled. He chose justice. He chose integrity. He chose the people.

As he bows out, he leaves behind not just an office, but a movement. Not just a title, but a legacy. And not just a Commission, but an institution that commands respect across Nigeria and beyond.

To say this soul deserves an accolade is an understatement. He deserves a chapter in the history of reform in Nigeria. Indeed, in the war against corruption in Kano, there was a time, and that time was Muhyi.

Tinubu Nominates Ramat as NERC Chairman, Appoints Two New Commissioners

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Ramat, 39, is a seasoned electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications.

Alongside Ramat’s nomination, the President also forwarded the names of two other appointees to serve as commissioners at the regulatory agency. They are Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, who is nominated as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

All three nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

To ensure uninterrupted leadership at the commission, President Tinubu has directed that Engr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending Senate approval, in accordance with legal provisions.

The President charged the nominees to bring their expertise to bear in revitalizing the nation’s power sector and contributing meaningfully to the administration’s broader energy reform agenda.

NEMA, N-HYPPADEC Collaborate to Strengthen Support for Vulnerable Communities

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic collaboration to enhance disaster response, mitigate risks, and support riverine communities affected by hydro-related ecological challenges.

The commitment was made on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, during a courtesy visit by the management of N-HYPPADEC, led by its Acting Managing Director, Dr. Jimoh Haruna Gabi, to NEMA Headquarters in Abuja.

The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, while responding to the request for partnership,  reaffirmed NEMA’s readiness to work with N-HYPPADEC in advancing grassroots disaster risk reduction, early warning, and response interventions.

She stressed the importance of shifting focus from reactive emergency response to proactive risk reduction and community resilience-building.

She added that “We must prioritize prevention and preparedness, helping communities relocate to safer grounds, improve sanitation, and build local capacity. Working in silos only weakens outcomes. It’s time we align our efforts for greater impact.”

The Director General further affirmed NEMA’s commitment to providing technical expertise, early warning support, and strategic coordination in collaboration with N-HYPPADEC and other stakeholders to reach the most vulnerable populations.

She said, “We welcome all relevant agencies to collaborate with us in delivering timely, coordinated, and impactful interventions.”

As part of NEMA’s proactive flood preparedness strategy, she informed the delegation that State Governments had been requested to identify and designate safe high-ground locations for the potential evacuation of at-risk communities during the 2025 flood season.

Earlier, Dr. Gabi said his team was at NEMA headquarters to explore opportunity for  collaboration and strengthening of partnership with the Agency

“For too long, dam-side communities have suffered from floods, erosion,” Dr. Gabi stated. “We have seen NEMA’s exceptional work and are eager to collaborate in ways that produce real, lasting impact.”

Both agencies acknowledged the importance of leveraging their zonal and state-level structures to enhance service delivery at the grassroots.

‎In a statement signed by the Governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Commissioner explained that his decision to resign was made in the overriding public interest and in the light of sensitive nature of the matter.

‎“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be. 

‎

‎"While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” he stated.

‎Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially received the report of the investigative committee constituted to examine the involvement of the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi Dala, in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

‎This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

‎

‎The report was formally presented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, during a meeting at the Government House, Kano. 

‎

‎He outlined the committee’s major findings based on its extensive review of material evidence and testimonies.

‎

‎Governor Yusuf commended the committee for its professionalism, objectivity, and commitment to truth. 

‎

‎He assured that the recommendations will be carefully reviewed and appropriate action taken in accordance with due process and the public interest.

‎Key Findings of the Investigative Committee:

‎🔹 Voluntary Suretyship: The Commissioner voluntarily submitted an application to serve as surety for the defendant on July 18, 2025.

‎

‎🔹 Affidavit of Means: He deposed to an affidavit confirming his position as a serving Commissioner and pledged to comply with all bail conditions until the conclusion of the trial.

‎

‎🔹 Awareness of Bail Requirements: He understood that only a serving Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council qualifies to stand surety under the court’s conditions.

‎

‎🔹 Lack of Due Diligence: The Commissioner did not exercise adequate caution before taking the decision to stand surety for a defendant facing serious narcotics charges.

‎

‎🔹 Full Knowledge of Charges: The Committee found that he had both constructive and actual knowledge of the drug-related nature of the charges.

‎

‎🔹 Violation of Government Policy: He was aware that the Kano State Government has a firm stance against drug trafficking, abuse, youth criminality, and related vices.

‎

‎🔹 No Prior Relationship: There was no evidence of any prior acquaintance between the Commissioner and the defendant.

‎

‎🔹 No Financial or Material Inducement: The Committee found no indication that financial benefit or other incentives influenced the Commissioner’s action.

‎

‎🔹 No Bail Deposit by Commissioner: The Commissioner did not deposit any sum, including the reported ₦5,000,000, for the bail. That claim was solely based on the defendant’s affidavit.

‎

‎Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency, justice, and discipline in public service. 

‎

‎He reaffirmed that the government remains resolute in its fight against drug-related crimes and all forms of social misconduct affecting Kano’s youth and society at large.

Kano Govt. Vows to Fix Inherited Deplorable Condition of Dilapidated Schools in the State

Kano State Government has expressed commitment to address the deplorable condition of the dilapidated schools inherited from the previous administration.

The State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda gave the assurance when he visited Murtala Muhammad Senior Secondary School in Tarauni Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenmemt of the ministry, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiri, said Murtala Muhammad Senior Secondary School is among the dilapidated schools inherited by the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf from the previous administration and trying to assess it's condition for renovation.

Supervising the school, Dr. Ali Haruna announced that the present administration had inherited a decayed system of education with so many dilapidated schools in the state.

" We inherited a decayed system in the education sector and this is what we are trying to fix. So, we are visiting all the dilapidated schools, even though we have their records, but this is what we have been doing day by day to bring the real situation of the schools we met in Kano State" said Makoda.

He expressed dismay over the manner some residents are turning Murtala Muhammad Senior Secondary School in to a refuse dumping site, stressing that government is going to take appropriate action to control the situation.

While inspecting the ongoing construction and renovation of classrooms at Government Girls Secondary School Guringawa by the present administration, Dr. Makoda expressed satisfaction with progress so far and the contractor's effort to keep to his promise of completing the work within stipulated period.

Among the projects inspected at the school by the Commissioner were the construction of two blocks of storey building of 4 classrooms, 2no five-seater toilets for students, staff toilets, school fence and staff offices and drilling borehole among others.

The Commissioner also paid a visit to the newly renovated Tukun Tawa Secondary School by the administration under the project given to the elected Councillors at 484 Wards in the state .

Makoda assured that the State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf would continue to stand by his words and make sure that children in the state have access to quality education.

These efforts therefore aim to strengthen the overall quality of education and provide a conducive learning in Kano State.

Tinubu Picks Young Reformer to Head Nigeria’s Power Regulatory Commission

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 39-year-old Engr. Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The appointment, announced on Monday, is seen as a strategic move by the Tinubu administration to inject youthful innovation and technical depth into the country’s electricity regulatory framework.

Engr. Ramat, a highly accomplished engineer and governance expert, brings with him a wealth of experience in public sector innovation, digital transformation, and strategic regulatory leadership. 

His appointment is expected to usher in a new era of intelligent regulation, improved consumer protection, and enhanced investor confidence in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

With a multidisciplinary background, Ramat holds a PhD in Strategic Management from Lincoln University, a Master’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from India, and a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from Bayero University, Kano. He also boasts executive certifications from globally renowned institutions, including Harvard University, Microsoft, Google, and Gonzaga University.

Ramat's track record in governance is equally notable. As Executive Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area in Kano State from 2021 to 2024, he pioneered Nigeria’s first blockchain-based decentralized e-identity system, which led to the creation of tamper-proof indigene and resident ID cards. He established the Ungogo Identity Management Agency (UIMA) and the Ungogo Internal Revenue Agency (UIRA), significantly boosting administrative efficiency and increasing internally generated revenue by over 300% through a cloud-based ERP platform.

Prior to that, he served as Managing Director of the Kano State Metropolitan Agency (KASMA), where he oversaw energy-efficient retrofits aimed at reducing electricity costs in public infrastructure.

An innovator in the tech space, Engr. Ramat is the developer of LURA, an advanced smart surveillance platform that utilizes Internet of Things (IoT), biometrics, and real-time analytics to enhance community safety and combat organized crime.

He is also the founder and CEO of AG Ramat Global Link and AG Ramat Global Apex, companies focused on engineering consultancy and technology services.

Engr. Ramat’s efforts have earned him local and international accolades, including recognition by the Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation (Dubai, 2022) as one of the “50 Most Influential Young African Leaders,” and “Best Performing Local Government Chairman” by the Kano State House of Assembly.

Chess For Social Impact celebrates International Chess Day with Fundraiser for Nigeria's chess prodigy Olisa

To mark International Chess Day, Chess for Social Impact, a flagship of Mendlife Global Foundation, on Sunday, hosted the Abuja Elite Chess Meetup, blending competition with a fundraiser for Nigeria’s rising chess star, Tennyson Olisa.

The event, held at Cafe One, Sterling Bank Plaza, Abuja brought together top players, enthusiasts, and philanthropists to support chess as a tool for unity and empowerment.

This year’s theme, “Every Move Counts,” reflected the game’s strategy and the importance of each step in a young athlete’s journey.

Founder Oto-obong Mendie (Cassandra) said the event was more than a tournament; it was about transformation through chess.

“We are here to celebrate chess as a force for change. This year, our focus is on helping Tennyson Olisa, who’s making Nigeria proud,” she said.

Tennyson needs support for his journey to the FIDE Grand Swiss in Uzbekistan and the World Cup in India — a trip requiring around ₦54 million in total.

The costs include visa travel to Egypt, flights, coaching, training, media, and hospitality. Mendie said Nigeria must give him a strong presence globally.

Tennyson, 22, from Delta State, recently qualified for the prestigious FIDE Grand Swiss but faces serious financial hurdles.

“His journey highlights the struggles gifted Nigerian players face. He has the talent and heart — now he needs support,” Mendie added.

His elder brother and manager, Engr. Anthony Olisa, said the event aimed to give Tennyson greater visibility and attract sponsors.

Tennyson began playing chess at 13. His family supported him early, recognizing his talent and potential to achieve greatness.

“He’s doing amazing things for Nigeria and is now among Africa’s best. He’ll represent us globally,” Anthony said.

He added, “This event helps us showcase him and, by God’s grace, find more sponsors for his journey.”

Anthony appealed to sponsors to support Tennyson’s dreams, saying he urgently needs opportunities to grow.

The Nigeria Chess Federation’s Vice President, Adeyinka Adewole, said they fully back Tennyson and believe in his abilities.

“This will be his first major international outing. It’s a dream come true for any young player,” Adewole said.

Adewole added that the federation, the National Sports Commission, and Nigerians are united behind Tennyson’s mission.

Mr. Ezekiel Bankole Ipinlaiye the managing director of Prog Loyd Realtors Limited also urged the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, along with private and corporate sponsors, philanthropists, and well-meaning Nigerians, to support the chess prodigy.

He noted that Tennyson, a proud indigene of Delta State, has won numerous medals for the state and is poised to bring honour and pride to Nigeria on the global stage.

The Abuja event included a blitz tournament, exhibition match, and mentorship session where Tennyson played seven elite players simultaneously.

A silent auction of chess-themed artwork also raised money for his trip, coaching, and accommodation.

Tennyson, visibly emotional, thanked supporters. “Representing Nigeria has always been my dream. I’ll give my all,” he said.

Dignitaries, diplomats, business leaders, and former champions attended, pledging their support for the young chess star.

The foundation raised over ₦5 million during the event — nearly halfway to the ₦54 million target.

International Chess Day, celebrated on July 20, was established by FIDE to promote chess and its educational value.

In Nigeria, the day is gaining traction, with more grassroots and youth programs emerging nationwide.

As the event ended, Mendie encouraged Nigerians to back young talents across fields.

“Every move counts — on the board and in life. Together, we can lift our youth to greatness,” she said.

Chess for Social Impact plans to continue fundraising through online campaigns and partnerships in the coming weeks.

Nigerians at home and abroad are urged to support Tennyson as he prepares for a global stage.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes to the top three winners of the tournament, along with awards to sponsors and patrons of the foundation.
