Task Force on Development Control Addresses Irregularities in Kano State

The Kano State Task Force on Development Control has intensified efforts to monitor and address irregularities in land use and building developments across the state.

Speaking during a routine operational visit, the Secretary of the committee, who doubled as the Director Admin and General Services of the Ministry, Hamid Sidi Ali, highlighted the commitment of the committee towards ensuring compliance with approved building plans and land use regulations.

According to the task force, the exercise is part of its mandate to sanitize building developments and eliminate breaches of the Land Use Act.

"We have been to several locations across the state, monitoring developments to ensure buildings are erected in accordance with approved plans as sanctioned by the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Agency and the Ministry of Land," Hamid stated.

The committee revealed that a significant number of violations and encroachments had been observed, prompting its third visit to Kwankwasiyya City.

The city, established during the tenure of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to address housing needs, has reportedly suffered from unauthorized land use and unapproved developments under successive administrations.

"Unfortunately, we found instances where areas designated for schools have been converted to residential buildings. These are the issues we are here to address. Properties found in breach have been marked, and their owners invited for corrections. If these invitations are ignored, appropriate actions will be taken," the Secretary added.

The task force also used the opportunity to remind the public about the ongoing recertification of title documents in Kano State. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf launched the initiative on October 25, introducing a more secure and updated document format to enhance land administration in the state.

Residents were urged to comply with the recertification process to ensure the integrity of land ownership records and avoid potential disputes.
