Bauchi Hajj Camp, Unstoppable Among More- NAHCON Head

The chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi has described Bauchi ultra-modern Sultan Saad Abubakar Hajj Camp constructed by the State Government led by Governor Bala Mohammed as unbeatable among other camps across the Nigerian federation.

Arabi was speaking when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Ultra Modern Hajji Transit Camp in Bauchi yesterday in order to see for himself the nature of the edifice.

He acknowledged the contribution of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad towards the well being of intending pilgrims, also describing it as one of the best in the country.

On the 2024 hajj exercise, the
NAHCON boss also called on states pilgrims welfare board whose pilgrims are yet to be flown to Saudi Arabia for this year’s pilgrimage to ensure speedy bringing them out to the designated airports for their journey to the Holy Land.

The Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON who made the plea said, “We wish the states that are remaining now will bring out their pilgrims in time, so that there is no waiting time for the aircrafts on the tarmac waiting for the pilgrims to come.”

Jalal Arabi noted that Governor Bala Abdulkadir is a patriotic human being, and prayed Almighty Allah to reward him abundantly for the building of a befitting Hajj pilgrims transit camp for the state.

“I am not surprised to say that this is what I call an elder brother. I know his capacity, I know his capability, but most importantly I know his patriotism. I know how he takes things, just as he respects other beliefs, but seeing this edifice confirms what I have for him, so I don’t take anything less from him than near perfection”, he said.

Arabi also congratulated the Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for timely and successful airlift of all its 2024 intending pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within a very short period without any hitches.

Executive Secretary Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Abdurrahman Ibrahim Idris has earlier expressed his happiness for the visit, saying the visit is an honour to Bauchi State.

On the secret behind the successful airlift of Bauchi pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, Imam Abdurrahman Ibrahim Idris attributed it to early preparation and securing visa on time.

Avoid Smuggling Prohibited Items into Saudi Arabia: NAHCON Warns

Intending pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj are cautioned to refrain from travelling with illicit drugs, kola nuts, cigarettes etc., into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The pilgrims are reminded that as a nation deeply rooted in religious and cultural heritage, Saudi Arabia holds strict laws against drug trafficking, penalty for which is death.

In a statement signed by the Assistant Director Public Affairs of the Commission, Fatima Sanda Usara, said NAHCON wishes to remind the pilgrims that the purpose of their trip to Saudi Arabia is for worship, therefore they should not be distracted by acts that would violate sanctity of their Hajj. Hajj period is a time for spiritual reflection and prayers that should be approached with reverence and respect for the laws and customs of the host country.

One the other hand, Commission’s management warns intending pilgrims to beware of being used as conduit for any illicit trade without their knowledge. Therefore, they are advised be extra vigilant over their bags at the airports to avoid implantation of prohibited items to their luggage unawares.

Pilgrims are urged to uphold their honour and dignity and that of the country, as any individual caught smuggling prohibited items not only brings shame upon themselves but also tarnishes the reputation of their nation.

NAHCON similarly advises State Pilgrims Boards to collaborate fully with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other related agencies in ensuring that persons planning to smuggle items prohibited in Saudi Arabia are apprehended to avoid embarrassment to the country and unnecessary delays during screening in both countries.

Hefty Penalties Await Hajj Visa Violators

This is to remind or inform the public of the warning issued by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi against participating in the Hajj without the valid Hajj visa. The Kingdom's Ministry of Interior stipulated a penalty of deportation and fine of 10,000 SR on anyone caught performing Hajj without the authorized Hajj permit.

In line, a similar message has been received by NAHCON (National Hajj Commission of Nigeria) through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arab Abuja, disclosing the stand of the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars on the matter.

The Council issued a Fatwa (a legal ruling given by recognized religious authority) to the Muslim Ummah emphasizing the prohibition of performing Hajj without a permit.

In a statement signed by Assistant Director Public Affairs of the Commission, Fatima Sanda Usara, said the letter stated in part that, “The Council in its Fatwa, urged pilgrims to adhere to rules and regulations, aimed at enabling Muslims to perform the Hajj in safety and tranquility.”

However, it would be recalled that NAHCON had issued several warnings in the past against Nigerians falling into the bait of scammers making so many job offers for the pilgrimage season.

In the same letter received by NAHCON on May 22nd 2024, the Saudi Ministry of Interior similarly advised persons against “becoming victims of the several fictitious companies and fake accounts on social media who claim to be agents/ authorities to facilitate Hajj using Umrah, Tourism, Work, Family Visit and other types of Visa at attractive rates.”

Assistant Director in charge of Tour Operators Unit, Ahmad Shira, has since shared contents of the message to all licensed Hajj and Umrah operators from the public and private sectors.
