Kano Govt Seeks AI Investment as Commissioner Visits Afrilab AI Hub in Zaria

The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing digital innovation and youth empowerment through artificial intelligence (AI).

During a working visit to Afrilab AI Hub in Zaria, the Commissioner inspected the company’s operations and training facilities, acknowledging its role in equipping young talents with cutting-edge AI skills.

The Commissioner stated that the visit was in line with the directive of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to engage the management of Afrilab AI Hub in discussions on the possibility of relocating their operations to Kano State. 

He emphasized that the state government is keen on fostering an enabling environment for AI-driven development, aligning with its vision for technological advancement and economic growth.

Comrade Waiya assured the company of the government’s full support, including necessary policy backing and incentives, to facilitate their establishment in Kano. 

He noted that the presence of Afrilab AI Hub in the state would accelerate skill development, create job opportunities, and position Kano as a leader in AI and digital technology.

He further reiterated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to initiatives that enhance the lives of young people, particularly through modern technology and innovation.

Welcoming the Commissioner, the Chief Executive Officer of Sinnts Technology Limited, Abdullahi Shu’aibu Damat, expressed his delight at the visit and his willingness to partner with the Kano State Government on AI technology.

Shu’aibu Damat assured the Commissioner of their readiness to collaborate with the Kano State Government and pledged to work together to create digital job opportunities for the teeming youth in Kano through AI skills development and training.

He also expressed the company’s commitment to relocating its headquarters to Kano, leveraging the state's existing infrastructure to support its operations and expansion.

Dan Zago Laid to Rest: Governor Yusuf, Kwankwaso, Kano Emir Pay Final Tribute

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside Senator Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended the funeral prayer of Alhaji Haruna Ahmadu Zago, the Managing Director of REMASAB, who passed away earlier today (Thursday).

The funeral prayer, led by the Commander General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, was held at the Kano Emir’s Palace and attended by hundreds of mourners.

Shortly after the prayer, Governor Yusuf accompanied the deceased’s body to Kofar Mazugal Graveyard for burial.

A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday, stated that Governor Yusuf, along with the national leader of the NNPP Sen. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso and his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, cabinet members, and others aides, later visited the Zago family residence to offer condolences.

At the residence, Governor Yusuf was received by the late businessman’s sons, Muhammad and Mukhtar Haruna Zago. During the visit, Comrade Gwarzo offered prayers for the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant the family strength during this difficult time.

Alhaji Zago is survived by four wives, 37 children, and numerous grandchildren.

NSC Commends NSSF, NCF, SUBEB for Successful Inaugural National School Board Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko has commended the successful hosting of the inaugural National School Board Games, describing it as a significant step in the advancement of school sports in Nigeria.

The event, which featured chess in its pilot phase, was organized by the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Nigeria Chess Federation. With over 300 students from all six geopolitical zones competing in the U-9, U-12, U-15, and U-18 categories, the tournament provided a platform for young athletes to develop critical thinking, discipline, and competitive excellence.

Mallam Dikko, was represented at the event by Mr. Lanre Ogunjobi (Technical Assistant, Strategy & Research) and Barrister Uche George Egbe (Technical Assistant,Legal and Compliance) as well as Mrs Ada Nwachukwu, Zonal Head of the NSC Lagos office 

Also in attendance were the Lagos State Commissioner of Education, Mr. Jumiu Alli-Balogun, and the Vice President of the Nigeria Chess Federation, Prince Adeyinka Adewole, both of whom expressed strong support for the initiative.

Delivering the Chairman’s message, Mr. Ogunjobi reiterated the NSC’s commitment to school sports development as a key pillar of Nigeria’s overall sports growth strategy.

His words, "The National Sports Commission remains dedicated to fostering both intellectual and physical sports as part of our broader vision for national sports development. The successful hosting of the inaugural National School Board Games is a testament to our resolve to ensure that every aspect of sports receives the attention and investment required for sustained growth.”

The NSC recognizes school sports as a fundamental platform for talent discovery and development, with the potential to produce future champions who will represent Nigeria at the highest levels of global competition. The inclusion of chess in this pilot phase marks an important milestone, and the Commission is committed to expanding the initiative to incorporate additional sporting disciplines in future editions.

The NSC Chairman encouraged the students to remain dedicated to their aspirations. 

He continued, “Your efforts today are laying the foundation for greater achievements tomorrow, not just in chess, but in every area of life. It’s not about winning or losing, but the invaluable experiences gained that will shape your future. Continue to dream big, work hard, and stay committed to excellence. The NSC commends the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), Lagos SUBEB, the Nigeria Chess Federation, and all stakeholders for their efforts in delivering a successful and impactful event, and reaffirms its unwavering support for initiatives that promote youth engagement and talent development through sports.

Speaking at the event, the President of the NSSF, Dr. Olabisi Joseph, expressed appreciation to the NSC Chairman Mallam Dikko and Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade for the support shown thus far. She also reaffirmed the NSSF’s commitment to grassroots sports development and stated that she looks forward to continued NSC support for the Federation’s programs, which have already been submitted to the Commission.

Kano Govt Meets Friday Mosque Imams, Seeks Support

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has called on the Kano State Council of Friday Mosque Imams to support efforts aimed at fostering moral discipline and mutual respect among citizens.

Speaking during a meeting with the Council, Comrade Waiya emphasized the crucial role of religious leaders in shaping societal values through knowledge and moral guidance.

In a statement signed by the Director Special Duties of the Ministry, Sani Abba Yola, said, the Commissioner stressed that the meeting was necessary to seek their collaboration in promoting a well-disciplined and morally upright society.

Expressing concern over declining moral standards, the Commissioner lamented how some individuals misuse the media to disrespect esteemed personalities under the guise of democracy and freedom of speech.

He noted that while democracy is an adopted system, it should be refined to align with the religious and cultural values of the people.

Comrade Waiya clarified that the government was not calling on the Imams for political engagement but rather to leverage their influence in sensitizing the public on good conduct, discipline, and respect for elders. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to working with religious leaders to promote peace, good character, and an improved standard of living guided by Islamic principles.

In his response, the Chairman of the Council of Friday Mosque Imams in Kano State, Sheikh Nasir Muhammad Adam, commended the Commissioner for recognizing the importance of religious leaders in governance and social development.

He applauded the government's efforts in fostering peace and encouraging responsible leadership among citizens.

Sheikh Nasir emphasized that Friday Mosque Imams are not politicians but serve as moral guardians to all. He assured the government of their unwavering support in advancing initiatives that uphold Islamic values, improve moral standards, and enhance the well-being of Kano State residents.

President Tinubu Installs North-West Development Commission Board to Foster Growth and Close Development Gaps

In a historic effort to drive equitable progress and bridge regional gaps, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR inaugurated the governing board of the newly created North West Development Commission (NWDC) today in Abuja. The landmark event underscores the federal government’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development in the region.  

Addressing attendees, Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, hailed the commission as “pivotal instrument for unlocking the cultural, economic, and human potential of the zone.” He lauded President Tinubu’s foresight and the National Assembly’s expedited legislative backing, emphasizing that the bodies will “tackle inequality, spur economic advancement, and elevate living standards.” Momoh further called for synergy with state governments, private enterprises, and international partners, pledging rigorous oversight to ensure accountability.  

Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, aligned the commission with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting the commission’s role in “launching strategic infrastructure to stimulate prosperity and improve citizen welfare.”  

Senate Committee leaders echoed support for the initiative. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (SEDC Committee Chairman) urged innovative solutions, stating, “Priorities must shift to railways, power plants, and job-creating industries—not just roads” while Senator Babagida Husseini (NWDC Committee Chairman) vowed stringent fiscal oversight, promising to “track every naira for maximum public benefit.”  

The NWDC Chairman, Lawal Samaila Abdullahi, stressed cross-regional partnerships to harmonize development efforts while the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji of the North-West Development Commission vowed to deliver tangible results. Ma’aji outlined plans to leverage the North-West’s resources for infrastructure upgrades and improved livelihoods.  

The event closed with a unified resolve to prioritize transparency, innovation, and results-driven governance, marking a new chapter in Nigeria’s regional development agenda.
