Kano HOS Visits Ministry of Internal Security, Commends Progress

The Kano State Head of Service, Alh. Abdullahi Musa, today paid a visit to the Kano State Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, marking a significant milestone for the ministry.

As a newly established entity, the ministry recently completed the renovation of its office space at Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), creating a more functional and conducive work environment. 

In a statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Murtala Shehu Umar, the visit by the Head of Service provided an opportunity to showcase these improvements and highlight the ministry’s commitment to efficiency and service delivery.

During his tour of the facility, Alh. Abdullahi Musa commended the team for their dedication in setting up the ministry and ensuring a smooth transition into its new workspace. 

He acknowledged the importance of the ministry’s role in enhancing internal security and assured continued government support for its operations.

He further emphasized the values of teamwork, dedication, and innovation as key drivers of success, encouraging staff to remain committed to their responsibilities. 

His visit served as a morale booster, reinforcing the ministry’s determination to contribute meaningfully to the security and development of Kano State.

GDSS Bolari East Hail Gara Gombe, Set To Appreciate Athletes For Medals Won

Government Day Secondary School Bolari East, Army Barracks Gombe has organized a grand reception in honor of their athletes who participated at the just ended Gombe State Inter Secondary Schools Athletics and Principals' Cup Football Competition. 

The well attended ceremony which took place on Monday 3rd February, 2025 at the assembly ground had in attendance the Principal, Vice Principals (Admin and Academics), Chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) senior master and mistress and other staff members.

The Principal, Mr, Habibullah Salihu congratulated the medalists for their exceptional talents.

"Let me use this medium to congratulate our medalists who have shown their exceptional talents and won so many medals, this has not just developed you but has also promoted the school, kudos to your performance. 

"We are going to organize a grand reception for the medalists in the coming week to celebrate them more as our school ambassadors" .

He also commended the Chairman/CEO Green White Green Sports Center Ltd Hon Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe who sponsored the competition. 

He also commended the efforts of the school games masters and other officials who worked to ensure the success of the athletes.

Medals and certificates won by the athletes were symbolically presented to them by members of staff.

GDSS Bolari East emerged 3rd overall best school in athletics and produced the best female athlete in the competition.

Dan Buram FC eyes Galadima cup

Junior Dan Buram Football Club of Daura, Katsina state has secured the final ticket of the ongoing Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Galadima soccer competition after beating Mubayya FC 3-1.

Speaking shortly after the final match, the proprietor of Junior Danburam FC, Alhaji Daha Umar Faruk described his team qualification as well deserved.

Alhaji Daha Umar Faruk expressed optimistic that with current performance of his players, the sky will be their limits.

While expressing satisfaction with the general organisation of the tournament, he charged the organisers led by Engineer Sulaiman Musa to sustain the tempo towards the overall development of the game in the state and the country at large.

Alhaji Daha Umar Faruk who double as the district head of Baure and Dan Buram of Daura of emirate in Katsina state charged his players to redouble efforts with a view to ensure the team lift this year's Galadima cup at the end of the championship.

It would be recalled that the defending championship of the competition Junior Kano Pillars FC were eliminated in the quarter final by Sheshe FC 4+3 in a penalty shootout.

Gov Yusuf Inaugurates Sharia and Zakkat Commissions

– Tasks Zakkat Commission on Alms Collection

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has inaugurated the Chairmen, Commissioners, and members of the Sharia and Zakkat & Hubusi Commissions. 

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Monday.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Yusuf emphasized Kano’s influential status in the Islamic world, citing its large number of renowned scholars, Islamiyya schools, and Islamic study centers.

He noted that the appointees were selected based on merit, competence, and trustworthiness, expressing confidence that they would execute their duties with dedication, enthusiasm, and integrity.

The governor charged the Sharia Commission with the responsibility of fostering unity among Muslim faithful across different sects to enhance peace, stability, and socioeconomic development in the state.

Similarly, he tasked the Zakkat and Hubusi Commission with devising effective strategies to collect alms (Zakkat) from wealthy individuals to support the less privileged, thereby reducing poverty to the barest minimum.

Governor Yusuf Hosts Tunisian Ambassador, Strengthens Kano-Tunisia Economic Ties

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has warmly received the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Nigeria, His Excellency Mohsen Antit, along with a high-powered delegation of government officials and business leaders.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Monday.

The visit, which coincides with the ongoing Tunisia-Nigeria Multi-sectoral Economic Forum, aims to foster deeper collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, culture, and trade.

Welcoming the delegation at Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed Kano’s position as a leading commercial hub in sub-Saharan Africa. 

He emphasized the state’s commitment to building mutually beneficial partnerships, describing Tunisia’s engagement with Kano as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral trade—particularly in agriculture, where both regions hold immense investment potential.

The governor further disclosed that Kano will partner with Tunisia in the areas of garment production, dairy processing, and dyeing industries, leveraging the expertise and resources of both regions to drive economic growth.

To facilitate business interactions, the governor directed the state’s Ministry of Investment, Commerce, and Industries, along with the Ministry of Agriculture, to organize an exhibition showcasing Kano’s economic strengths to the Tunisian delegation.

Governor Yusuf also highlighted the strategic importance of the Kano Dry Port in advancing international trade. 

He noted that local businesses were preparing to begin importing goods from Tunisia through the facility, a move expected to boost cross-border commerce.

Expressing gratitude for Tunisia’s hospitality toward 17 Kano entrepreneurs who recently visited the country for business engagements, Governor Yusuf assured that Kano would reciprocate by providing a welcoming environment for Tunisian investors.

To further solidify this partnership, he instructed the Managing Director of the Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (KAN-INVEST) to accompany the ambassador on a tour of key economic sites across the state.

In his remarks, Ambassador Mohsen Antit commended Kano’s economic potential and lauded the warm reception accorded to his delegation. 

He reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to strengthening long-term partnerships with the state and expressed optimism about the productive discussions held with Kano’s business community and government agencies.

The visit concluded with both parties expressing confidence in a stronger Kano-Tunisia relationship, paving the way for increased trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

A Night of Honour: Governor Yusuf Celebrates 35 Kano Indigenes for Exceptional Service

In a grand and historic ceremony, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, honored 35 distinguished indigenes whose outstanding contributions have left an indelible mark across various fields.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. 

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf described the event as “a night of pride, inspiration, and recognition,” celebrating the brilliance and achievements of Kano’s finest individuals.

He noted that the prestigious gathering brought together dignitaries from diverse sectors, including military officers, academics, public servants, engineers, and business leaders. 

While non-political in nature, the ceremony highlighted Kano’s immense talent and its continued influence in shaping national progress.

Among the honorees were recently promoted generals in the Nigerian military, senior police and paramilitary officers, and Federal Permanent Secretaries of Kano origin, whose leadership and dedication have significantly impacted national security and governance. 

The honored individuals included Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Prof. Shehu Ahmad Said Galadanci, CON, Murshid of the National Mosque and renowned academic; Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, and esteemed medical professional. 

Others recognized for their unwavering commitment to national defense were Major General M.S. Ahmed, Major General Sani Sumaila Ibrahim, and Air Vice Marshal M. Yusuf.

In academia and other professional fields, the honorees included Prof. Umma Abdullahi, the first female Professor of Mechanical Engineering from Kano; Dr. Hadiza Galadanci, a renowned Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Prof. Nazifi Abdullahi Darma, a distinguished academic at the ECOWAS Commission. 

Also honored were CP Hajiya Hauwa Ibrahim, one of Nigeria’s highest-ranking female police officers and the first indigenous female Commissioner of Police from the Northwest geopolitical zone, as well as Eng. Mustapha Balarabe Shehu, President of the World Engineering Forum and a highly respected figure in the engineering profession.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized that the ceremony was more than just an awards night—it was a celebration of Kano’s enduring legacy of excellence. 

He highlighted the honorees’ dedication, resilience, and service, stressing that their achievements serve as an inspiration for future generations.

“These distinguished sons and daughters of Kano have brought immense pride to our state. Their commitment to excellence is a beacon of hope for our youth, who must strive to follow in their footsteps. 

It is our responsibility to honor them and ensure their contributions are never forgotten,” the Governor stated.

The gathering was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, and business magnates, fostering an atmosphere of mentorship and collaboration aimed at furthering Kano’s development. 

The night concluded with a formal dinner and cultural performances, showcasing Kano’s rich heritage and unity.

In his welcome address, Hon. Muhammad Yusuf Jamu, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Special Adviser to the Governor on National and International Relations, announced that the award ceremony would be institutionalized as an annual event to serve as a platform for unity, sustainable development, and economic prosperity.

Kano students, 35 states and FCT Abuja set to storm Lago's for NSSF championships

36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja are to compete in the National School Swimming championship tagged: "FISH" scheduled to hold in Lagos.

The competition which is being organized by the Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF) as part of it's commitment to revive the lost glory of the event nationwide.

A statement by the Secretary General of the federation, Oba Funsho Usman PhD and made it available to newsmen said the championship will take place at the National Stadium swimming pool, Surulere, Lago's from February 13rd and 14th2025.

He said that the event aims is to bring young athletes from public and private schools to showcase their swimming skills and compete at national level, adding that the eventual winner of the championship will have the unique opportunity to represent the country at the international School Federation (ISF) Gymanasiade and other international school sports competitions later in the year.

The secretary general revealed that the competition to be completed include under-18 and 15 boys and girls categories for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly 50 metre, 200 metre and 200 metre respectively.

Oba Funsho Usman further explained that the federation also lined up board chess competition among secondary schools Under-9, 12, 15 and 18 categories which will take place at Universal Basic Education Board Hall, Maryland, Lagos from February 10th and 11th.

He said that the administrative seminar will be conducted on February 12 at the NSSF secretariat, national stadium, Surulere while Milo secondary schools basketball stakeholders Forum meeting will hold on February 13rd, 2025 at the same venue.

Meanwhile, four secondary schools from Kano are expected to represent the state in the lined up activities organises by the Nigerian School Sports Federation NSSF in Lagos.

Speaking with newsmen on the arrangements put in place by the state ministry of education, the head of school sports in the ministry, Ibrahim Bello said that all hands are on desk to ensure the success of the state contingent while in Lagos.

 Malam Ibrahim Bello said that already the athletes have been receiving vigorous training aimed at making impact in the championships.

He name the four secondary schools that are expected to represent the state which include Government Secondary schools Minjibir, Bagwai, Bukavu Barracks and GSS Stadium.

Athletics Champ: How Maryam Saad, Female Artist Thrilled Gombe Crowd inside Pantami Stadium

Katsina State based female artist Maryam Sa'ad was a delight to watch as she thrilled the crowed at the official opening ceremony of 2025 of Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics which held on Tuesday at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe State.

The Katsina born music artist lived up to expectations as her songs and artistic display on stage saw spectators dancing to frenzy. 

The 23 year-old graduate of Katsina State College of Education performed for 20 minutes and her songs received a good applouse and was commended by Director General of the competition, Hon Ahmed Gara Gombe and other guests who had to stepped down from the VIP stand to join in the dancing spree.

Speaking after her brilliant performance, female artist said she started her music career at Seven in Katsina and she had performed in various states and composed different songs for politicians and other dignitaries in the Northern part of Nigeria.

She also expressed her gratitude to Hon. Gara Gombe for inviting her to perform at a huge event of this magnitude and extended her appreciation to fans for the love showed during her performance.

"I am happy that the good people of Gombe accepted my songs and I thank Honourable Gara Gombe for giving me the opportunity to perform in Patanmi Stadium where more than 2,000 children were in attendance,"she said. 

Saar said she would continue to remain focused and ensure that she uses her songs to put smile on the faces of youths in Northern part of Nigeria.

Speaking in the same vein, Manager of popular artist, Abubakar Bature said he was not suprised with the performance of Saad saying that she has natural talents in music when she started seven years ago in Katsina.

"I came across her in 2017 and I observed that Saad is gifted in music.Since I became her manager,she has been improving tremendously.

"I am happy that she was at her best at the official opening ceremony of Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship and principal cup football competition.She has not reached her pinnacle of music career yet I am still planning to get a job for her in other states especially in Lagos and outside the country,"he said

Education - KNSG, PLANE organize 3-day Procurement Training For Planning Officers Under Education Sector

Determined to enhance effective implementation of education sector public procurements law, Kano State Government in collaboration with Partnership For Learning For All in Nigeria (PLANE) organized 3-day training programme for members of the sector planning officers of the state ministry of education.

The training programme which took place at Tahir Guest Palace, also had participants from the procurement units of all the agencies under the education sector.

Addressing the Participants during the closing ceremony of the programme on Friday, the State Commissioner of Education Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda disclosed that the Workshop was intended to provide the participants with in-depth knowledge on procurement planning and its benefits for successful implementation.

Dr. Makoda represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad added that the training is in line with the present administration's policies of reviving the education sector through intensive workshop to enhance service delivery.

" The effort is part of the present administration's commitment to justify the recent declaration of state of emergency on education through training and retraining of our staff to achieve effective service delivery.

 " So my coming here is to see how the programme is going on and tell you that your engagement here is going to be a fruitful one " he stated.

He commended PLANE for partnering with Kano State Government on different educational development programmes and assured that the state would continue to give them all the necessary cooperation needed to achieve the intended goals.

To the participants, Makoda urged them to make the best use of what they had learnt during the the programme in improving their performance as planning and procurement officers.

In his remarks, the Project Consultant PLANE Mr. Chukwuma Chinaka revealed that during the training programme, participants were guided through various technical sessions regarding Kano State public financial management law as well as public procurement law.

Chukwuma further explained that as part of the training outcomes, the participants were exposed to the provision of the Kano State public procurement law, enhanced their compliance to the Kano State education sector implementation law and acquired basic knowledge on effective implementation of education sector procurements in Kano State
